I could use some help identifying these signatures. I am pretty sure who is on the Brewers ticket but could use a second opinion. The other one was part of a group of New York Mets Hotel Room service reciepts. They were from the late 1960's or so.
As always, thanks in advance Jim Last edited by nyr1994; 08-18-2022 at 02:35 PM. |

Your ticket stub is Blue Jays player Shawn Green . Interestingly he made his MLB debut the day before on the 28th.

The other is my old friend Lonny Frey, who nearly made it to 100. Such a great guy.
It's a meal receipt. I don't seem to recall that he had any association with the Mets. Very cool to learn that. I visited him a few times and this part of his life never came up in all those hours of conversation. Thanks for sharing. According to his SABR biography, Lonny had no interest in scouting or continuing on in baseball post-retirement, so it's a bit of a mystery what association he would have had with the Mets! He also predated the existence of that club by a longshot, so being a guest of the club for some sort of event makes very little sense considering there was no history between them of which I am aware. Anyone out there care to figure this out? Maybe he was a guest spring training instructor. Who knows? Last edited by BillyCoxDodgers3B; 08-18-2022 at 05:40 PM. |

That's a very solid theory due to what you mention.
Lonny was a very happy-spirited guy. He only ever broke from this on two brief occasions. The record books all list his nickname as "Junior". While he was humble, he wasn't falsely modest and knew his worth on a ballfield. When asked about the nickname, he denied it was his and wouldn't own it: "I was NEVER a 'junior'!". The other instance where he was a little annoyed was when he started telling me about how fellow St. Louis native Buddy Blattner didn't belong on a Major League field, and only got there because his father had some sort of local significance and influence over his son's fate. It's rather surprising, then, that Blattner played as long as he did. Last edited by BillyCoxDodgers3B; 08-18-2022 at 08:03 PM. |

I appreciate the responses. I kind of figured it was Shawn Green. I thought he started his career a little later. I suppose the strikes delayed him a little. Then I checked him I saw the date of his first game, that sort of cinched it.
As far as Mr Fray, I suppose this could be an old timers day weekend or something like that. The Mets had a lot of events back then, New Team, Stadium & All Star Game 1964 and the World Series. If I recall there were some other non Mets like Podres and Allie Reynolds. It is possible the original listing was incorrect on being Mets. Stay Safe Jim |
