Default The Honus Wagner of watches sold today.

Anyone here collect vintage watches? I would love to if I had a little more in the bank. Vintage watches are crazy hot right now and would be a fun hobby.

The "Honus Wagner" of watches sold today for $17.8 million.

Apparently in the early 90s you could get a Paul Newman Daytona model for only around $300...now these models go for a ton and will rise as a result of this sale.

Here is my Rolex watch- a 1980's 18K Oyster Perpetual. So let's start the bidding at say...$4 million. Heck, I'm not greedy.

I just wear mine on special occasions. Definitely not my everyday watch.

My daily watch for the last 26 yrs. I bought it when it was around 8 yrs old. It is still worth a little more than I paid for it. To me, that is practical. This pic is taken from the interweb, mine isn't quite as clean (needs to be cleaned) but looks the same.

Thanks., I am sure I was wearing it when I came to stay with you years ago. Your Presidential is nice too but it seems like the white gold ones are the new thing. I want a day/date but am too cheap and can't justify it.

The market for Rolex watches is all over the place. You see some for $1500 and other ones selling for tens of thousands, and they don't really look that much different.

When I became interested in watches I did a fair amount of reading on Watchuseek which is the Net 54 equivalent just to get a basic education. One thing that was clear is that many watch collectors have extreme OCD-ish tendencies.

I quit wearing watches when first pagers, then cell phones, then smart phones became available. My carcass will have no jewelry whatsoever on it.

However, I feel the need to have a digital clock that can be read from across every room at home.

Hey, but that's just me.

Here are a few of my personal favorites. The stainless/white gold watch is my daily wearer and the vintages (20s or 30s--I'll have to look at the serial number again to confirm) is for more casual days. I love watches as most of my purchases were connected with special occasions--the Tag with high school graduation, a Movado for law school graduation, the stainless/white gold to celebrate my first decent bonus, and the vintage watch for my wedding.

Here are a couple of my mechanical watches which have neither the brand (snob) appeal nor the price tag of a Rolex etc.

Great watches Peter. I particularly like the look of the black one.
