Default Storage of 1958 Hires Root Beer with Tabs

I purchased a set from the last REA Auction 13 were graded the rest are raw.

The raw ones came rubber banded between two large pieces of plastic. I am afraid of ordering and putting them in CardSaver 4s because not sure how the tabs would hold up when I take them out. If you have used those without issue let me know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would cut a 8x10 ( if that’s big enough) down the middle and shove the card in from the side opening.

Thanks for confirming that the semi-rigid could break the tabs.

Will try the 8x10 sheet idea they are 7 inches long so I don’t think 5’x 7 will work but cutting a big sheet may be best unless someone else has a better solution.

Appreciate the responses.

Not sure if this will help you but BCW makes 2 pocket pages with pockets that are 4 1/4 by 11 1/4.

All of mine are in slabs.

Probably not the best solution, because it's spendy. But if you don't mind paying to have them all graded, then that's another option to keep them from getting separated.

I don't have one of the items, but frequently store fragile paper items by placing them first in a flimsy protective sheet such as ones used to store comic books, and then place them in an 8x10, etc. That way I can safely insert and remove them doing the listing and inserting using the protective sheet.

I use 6x9 toploaders with a 6x9 sleeve.

I'm able to get 2 Hires with tab side by side those. It's not a perfect solution but it works well enough. I can access the cards without damaging the tabs.

But, if someone creates a 3 x9 toploader it would be even better.

Just after my last reply, I found a 3.5 x 7.25 Ticket Toploader in my drawer. It fits the Hires with tab nicely. I've just ordered 2 packs.

Checked BCW and going to try the 3 pocket currency pages and put them in a binder. I will post how they work when they arrive. I think with them being toploaders but a sideways orientation for the cards I should be able to safely remove them by holding above and below the tab.

Appreciate all the ideas!

I've had the exact thing happen with a T201. For similar cards with tabs or odd sizes like a full boxes of 1971 Milk Duds, I use either a large card saver cut on two sides. If there are quite a few odd sized cards to be stored, I sandwich them between two card savers with oversized cardboard on each end that is rubber banded together. I haven't had any problems since then

I've torn the tab off a Hires and a T201 so I've been wanting a solution to this. When using the ticket holder, is the card penny sleeved first so that there is something to grab to pull the card out of the holder?

I'm not aware of a penny sleeve for ticket size toploaders,. But I don't pull cards out of toploaders, I turn them on their side a tap the side until the cards starts to come out. Then it just slides out easily.

BCW does sell large currency penny sleeves that measure 7 7/16 x 3 1/4 which fit tabbed hires

https://www.bcwsupplies.com/currency-sleeves-large-bill

Both ultra-pro and bcw sell the large bill top loaders for these as well. Both top and side load.
