Default Ty Cobb Autograph - OPINIONS & COMMENTS Please

Greetings!

For those of you that know me and for those of you that don't... I mainly lurk on NET54, but in my retired life, I help Families downsize or otherwise de-accession "Stuff." Ebay, here, elsewhere, I help Friends, Family, and "NEW" Friends get Fair Market value for their stuff.

I have a Friend... LITERALLY, her Family were HOARDERS! I'm helping her dispose of things - VERY SLOWLY... Mostly been coins & Silver Bullion as she finds them.

Last week, she brought me this! I've collected Sports Cards for 50+ years and MOSTLY AVOIDED autographs for the same time frame...

Anyway, if I have you hooked so far - is there ANY CHANCE that this is legit???

Much appreciation for your 2 cents!

My Best,
Greg

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I would appreciate more responses, but I SINCERELY appreciate those who have offered their opinions, public & private, so far!

My friend, and she REALLY exists, will allow me to shred this "auto" at my say so.

Thoughts??? Mine would be to remove it from the Marketplace forever, so...

I am not an expert at Mr. Cobb's signature, but in looking at this one as opposed to the PSA Exemplars posted on their Autograph Facts portion of their website, I do not believe this to be an authentic version of Mr. Cobb's signature. They Upper loop in the T looks off. The C does not look right as most have a distinct curl or like a small circular pattern on the upper formation of the C. Some do have a bend in the upper part of the C that goes inwards. The O usually fully connects and loops back over making a sort of mini O on top of the full letter. The thing that stands out about the B's are that in most of his authentic examples the bottom of the letter b is rounded, but in this example they are pointed. My opinion is that this is not an authentic example based upon what I have seen and compared it to.

Appreciate your intel, Brad!

I didn't realize that I could access exemplars through PSA. I would consider sending this cut to them for authentication IF it made sense to spend the money. Based on what I have heard so far from NET54, it seems to make the most sense to remove THIS Mr. Cobb from circulation permanently.

I will take the appropriate action after taking with my friend!

Again, THANK YOU ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME TO RESPOND!

Greg

You can send that picture for quick opinion to Beckett Authentication for $10 and they will tell you whether or not it is likely to pass or fail authentication. If you want that extra peace of mind, that may be a good route. It isn't fully analyzed, but they will tell you the likelihood of it passing. With Cobb being potentially a valuable piece, I would consider that route if you are looking for that one thing to just totally put it over the edge for you so you can say both the board and a TPA believe this to be. It's $10 for ease of knowing if you aren't totally sold one way or another.

Thanks AGAIN, Brad!

My lack of knowledge in the autograph field is definitely showing!

As an update, based on the strength of the UNANIMOUS opinions that I have received from NET54, my Friend has agreed to and I HAVE SHREDDED the autograph!

ONE LESS "BAD ONE" IN CIRCULATION!
