Default Heard and read about the current increase in prices but ?

I normally don't comment about the current price increases people post. However this is one I just had to say something about. I am looking for a 1959 "error" card 548 so have a watch on eBay. The non-error cards normally run $3-6 in EX. Today I received my almost daily email from eBay and, among others, was a non-error one listed for $500 BIN. They did have a "Best Offer" tag on it. This is not a new dealer but one I have bought from before. I was tempted to ask them if they knew something I didn't. Maybe someone will buy it and I hope so.

They have a lot of common cards with a $500 buy it now or best offer.

Maybe they are looking for someone who does not know a lot about cards to buy one.

For me, just another seller to stay away from.

Maybe they are concerned there could be a sudden run-up in prices and they will be priced too low. That actually happened to Dean's Cards. He had cards sitting there at prices that were considered too high forever. Then when the prices suddenly increased he wasn't able to raise his prices fast enough and suddenly his cards were some of the cheapest offered on ebay and they got scooped up. Seems like this seller is ready for a REALLY big price increase with those kind of prices.

I went back and looked at his first page only. He seems (as mikemb said) to have most his 1959's at $500 but he does have some at $50. As I said, I have bought some matchbooks from this dealer before and he was always reasonable. His 59's seem to be either $500 or $50. I wonder if he tried to do a batch listing or something and messed up? Oh well.

Let's all reflect on that for a moment.

Just to note, there are two versions of the #548 error, with the ink running into the bottom of the team name, and a second where it bleeds into the bottom border.
