Default Advice please, removing photo mount.......

Posted By: Richard L.

Hello members,
I have a card that has an old photo mount attached (seems to be attached firmly) to the back of the card. It is an eyesore to see. Wondered if anyone would have good advice to remove it without damaging the card. The card stock is from the 30s and the maker National Chicle. Not sure if I have the guts to attempt anything, but would appreciate any advice to possibly give it a shot, thanks.

I've not ever soaked a Diamond Star, maybe someone here has and can tell you if that will work.

If you don't soak, or use a solvent, you might consider sanding the mount down. I'd use very fine sand paper, wrapped around a small block, or a Dremel motor tool. Gently grind or sand a tiny bit, then stop and see where you are. Stop before you get to the card. You may well get down to a point where a moist Q-Tip will loosen the mount remnants and glue, without doing damage to the card itself.

I'd wait and see if someone says Diamond Stars will soak before trying the sanding.

Diamond Stars soak just fine . It's the adhesive that would be a concern for anyone with little or no experience. Sorry, I wouldn't use sandpaper or a dremel tool...but that's just me.
