Default Brady Retires and collectibles

Tom Brady Retires again. 2nd Year 2nd Announcement and 2nd time announced on Feb 1st.

Do we think he will change his mind?
Do we think his new last touchdown ball is truly his last and what will it be worth?

Should he have retired or kept playing?

He got divorced partially because of his desire to keep playing so the family issues is not a factor.

He had a Down year by his standards. But his year statistically still was a strong year almost 4700 yds passing, 25 TD's 66.8% pass completion and a 90.7 rating

What do you think

I think he's done for good this time. I'm sure there will be some rumor mill gossip about his possibly coming back but I don't believe he will.

No clue on the last ball value. My guess is, if it went up for auction/sale in the very near future, people would hesitate or think twice about spending a lot of money for it due to uncertainty of Brady staying retired.

In regards to whether or not he should have unretired, eh, I don't have any thoughts on that really. For whatever reason, he did what was best for him. My guess is the marriage was already headed to divorce anyway before he unretired.

Brady had a statistically better year then you might have thought. Bucs were not a good team though, even with all the weapons Brady had in the passing game.

Is he retiring for good? I hope so, but last year's retirement just ended up being some sort of an accounting/book-keeping scheme between Brady and the Bucs by the timing of it (Brady's contract, Free Agency, Bucs salary cap, etc..). Would seem pretty cynical if he were to do that again, on the same date as last year.

I think he should never have returned. There was so much praise, honors, etc. after the announcement last year. This year, barely a blimp on the screen. Even the best has to retire.

Next is Aaron Rodgers. I hope he retires. I don't think there has ever been so much hoopla around someone retiring as Rodgers. Hall of Fame, yes, however it won't be based on his post season championship performance. 1-4 in NFC championship games is not earth shattering. The Packers have one of the most storied legacies of all time. They will replace and move on - just like they did with Favre.

Good luck to both of them, as I'm sure they will end up on the side lines or broadcast booth. Give the new guy's an opportunity to show some skill! They just might find another Mahomes or Burrow.

Remember the hoopla about Brady's last post season TD ball. Huge sale, sale rescinded after much publicity and news articles, then relisted and sold this year a second time by Lelands. I posted that I thought buying that ball was a decent speculative stab in that (a) Brady's personal life was publicy falling apart and he could walk away again before the season ended (b) it was unclear how good Tampa was. I said they might not even make the playoffs.

Well, they made the playoffs. Barely. And then were eliminated by Dallas, and Brady threw two TDs. So that ball is now officially the third last TD pass of Brady's career. Prob not worth what it was sold for. Believe the last time it was sold for about $75,000. Third last TD pass doesn't seem to have a lot of cache.

You might be right, but I'm guessing those last two balls weren't thrown into the stands.

I'd wonder how many Brady TD balls are actually available to the general public. Most aren't like HR balls, where they tend to end up in the crowd.

I think I've said it before, but if a Brady football card can sell for a million+, I don't see whey ANY TD football with rock solid provenance from him, shouldn't eclipse that.

Brady already has a Fox Sports broadcasting deal for 10 years and $375 million, he is officially done. I don't think there will be any serious rumors at all.

I did hear that Kraft offered him a one-day contract so he can retire a Pat, I would not be very surprised if he did that.

Saw an article that said the last 2 were NOT thrown into the stands. That doesn't mean they aren't in the hands of someone who might want to sell someday.

Coming in 2033 Topps, The Brady retirement inserts! A set of 10, each highlighting a different retirement. And two special numbered versions "Materials" with an encapsulated newspaper headline portion from that years announcement numbered to 100, and a special 1/1 version with year date holofoil and an on the headline signature!

I'm sort of hoping he could pull off a Clemens esque thing where he signs mid season with a team that has a shot at the playoffs but either lost their qb or didn't really have a good one. For like the next several years...
