did you really think these were worth less thasn the buy it now? you missed a golden chance my friend. when you hem and hawed somebody seen a score and swooped in like superman. my guess $200+ each, maybe a bit more, and when you want to buy something you dont make it """public""" for goodness sakes!!!!!! what did you think would happen?? some starnger would email you and say "yeah" they are worth 7 times that, hurry up and buy them, or do you think they would go buy them themselves and privatley chuckle and thank you for alertimg them to a score?? i think now you know the answer...

I sat there for two hours looking through old auction catalogs, googling for info on these cards without finding any info. I guess the fact that I didn't find anything should of been a clue that these were pretty scarce. Oh well.

They'll come around again. It's not like it was a rare "underprint" or something. These pop up occasionally and yes the price was good but you'll find another.

There seems to be a lot more of the '55 salesman panels out there than any other year of Topps or Bowman. I know there is a board member that has a stack of them.

They're called salesman samples and you can find them for old Topps and Bowman cards. The card salesman took them around to stores when trying to convince them to buy the product. The salesman samples are genuine uncut panels of the finished cards with a paper advertisement pasted to the back.

The eBay prices were indeed low. The salesman samples are scarce but you see will see them on the market again-- and you'll will know what they are. As expected, the ones with big stars are worth the most, and all common player versions worth less. I didn't see Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle on the eBay salesman samples I clicked on, so you shouldn't feel too bad.

Below links to pics of two Topps salesman samples with stars. These might be worth in the $500-$700 value range, due to the big time stars, strong condition and that one is unusually large. Also, they show you that the panels come in in different sizes and shapes, with the 3x1 (vertical or horizontal) being the most common.

This does not belong here. One time I posted something about 51 Topps and it was closed. I guess it's who you are on this stupid board. Rob

I thought about locking this thread when I saw it, as it really doesn't belong here, but the poster is a regular contributor and, per the rules, gets some slack. If you read the rules you would know........And then again nice people probably get some slack when others don't.....

But Leon, if posts like there were to be moved to the post war board perhaps it would get a bit more traffic. Certainly anything in the '50's is clearly beyond the fringe of pre war, and it looks like the majority of us that have responded have also posted on the other board, so we certainly would've found it.
