Default What do you think this Jackie Robinson RC is worth?

Just wanting some opinions on this one, will probably send it in to get it graded. Never could afford a Jackie Robinson RC and probably never will. This one unfortunately is too low grade for my taste. Your thoughts on its value? Either way just wanted to show it.

Haven't checked any listings but my gut says $300 if authentic.

I would guess more in the $50-$75 range IF authentic. You can get a graded one in POOR condition with decent eye appeal for $600.

Default Unfortunately

So you're saying a poor with bad eye appeal only gets 10% of poor with good eye appeal? $50-75 sounds very low

Someone might pay more, that is just what I would pay if I had the chance to buy one in that condition. Personally I like those type of cards because I can afford them.

What do you think would be a fair price?

Many years ago, I was trying to fill in my Jackie Robinson needs (thankfully it was a while back, as I would not want to pay for any of them now). Aside from the 52 Topps, which I figured I would never own, I was only missing the 50 Bowman. I could never find one that looked good and was affordable and I eventually stopped looking. Prices have gone up considerably and I find myself thinking about the 50 Bowman from time to time, but when I do look, even copies in a similar condition to the rookie being shown are more expensive than I would want to pay.

I guess in a roundabout way, I am trying to say that I would never want a card like that one shown, not even as a filler, so I wouldn't even pay what bnorth suggested it might be worth, simply because it is too beat up and ugly for my personal taste. However, there are collectors out there for those types of cards and may be willing to pay even more than that, just to have that rookie card.

I have no idea if $50 is right or not ... but I will say that if it was for sale ... my high bid would be $50 as well. More than that and I'll hold out for a nicer one. And yes, a "nice" poor one would be worth a lot more than that to me.

Not sure I would pay $50... unless slabbed as an "A" or 1...

I will pay 150 if I can see it
first to confirm it is authentic.

It doesn’t look authentic but could be the photos. But it looks like one of those overly damaged reprints.

I also would not call this his rookie but that’s just my opinion I guess.

I agree, I thought the 1948 Leaf was his rookie card. The 1949 Bowman averages around $650 for Authentic graded per VCP, although the card pictured is in such dreadful condition that I wouldn't expect to sell it anywhere close to VCP value.

If graded authentic in that shape I could see $2-300. I don't know about $75, but yes if it's just up on ebay like that not graded I can see it going for much less. Some people assume that cards like that, no matter the grade - if not slabbed are fake. That's not true, but I guess I understand why some feel that way.

Default Graded

I think I'm going to grade it with SGC, I figure it is a $200+ card for someone that just wants one. ....

If you're certain it's real, then I would agree grading is a very worthwhile expense.

I regard Leaf as 1949 even though it is more commonly catalogued as 1948 or 1949. As such, I would say either the Leaf/Bowman are both RCs or neither are.

Default Looking

Looking to sell this card. PSA graded it "no holder" I called SGC and asked and they said if it was too brittle they wouldn't encaspulate which they did not either. Neither one explicitly said questionable authenticity. LMK if anyone wants to take a risk on it maybe Beckett would grade it, maybe there other 2 would down the line. I have $150 after two grading fees, into it. Again, I I want anyone to know that it has not been officially authenticated so the risk is on you, you be the judge on the photos. Came with other authentic Bowman cards but I just don't know for sure. Thanks, Pat
