Default Mike D's 1975 Topps Binder Project

With the 1977 Topps Binder Project coming to an end, it was time to start a new binder project - the 1975 Topps set!

To review:

What is a binder set? It's got non-high end, non-graded cards, perfect for flipping through without risking any major investments.

To add to the fun, I'll likely pick up graded copies of some of the more interesting stars from the set. If I get a graded copy of a card, I'll still get a non-graded for the binder, but may allow for lower grade there to help keep costs in check.

Depending on what I get for duplicates, I may even dabble in some TTM autograph chasing.

The 1975 Topps set consists of 660 cards. Here is the checklist.

This set is significantly more expensive than either the 1976 or 1977 Topps sets, led by the RC's of hall of famers George Brett and Robin Yount. Other key cards include several Nolan Ryan and Hank Aaron examples.

So, this one may take a while...but it should be another fun project.

Unlike prior projects, where I started with large mixed lots purchased either here or on eBay, this project starts with one lot, bought from a site member.

Roughly 365 cards (55.3% of the set), all different, from the 1975 set that are in GREAT condition. These are almost all commons, with the best card being a Rod Carew card.

Paid $105.00 delivered for the lot, which feels like a nice deal and a nice start!

Total spent on binder set: $105.00
Total Reclaimed: $0.00
Total Spent on Graded: $0.00

The above list shows the existing PSA graded cards I had at the start of this project. Not a bad little start!

Enjoyed following your other '77 set, and I'm looking forward to this one as well. Good luck with it.

These are really cool threads and ideas, followed the 77 project pretty closely.

Growing up I had all my overproduced cards in about 40 binders, got caught up in the shiny new and sold them all, they ranged from 85-91 so nothing truly spectacular but wish I wouldn't have sold them.

I'm tempted to start one of these projects but just haven't committed yet. If I do I think I've narrowed it down to a 1960 or 1969 sets....love the 69 but I'm also a sucker for horizontal cards and love the 60 set as well.

I'm excited to follow your journey and thanks for sharing.

Chad

Thanks Chad...glad to hear you've enjoyed the threads.

I grew up collecting in the junk wax era (got my start in 1987) so those sets you mentioned have a soft spot for me, too.

I was actually thinking about buying an 1988 Score or 1989 UD set and putting them in binders...not because they have value or the thrill of the chase, but just because they're pretty cards!

I haven't been brave enough to venture into 60's sets yet. Two good options...1969 will be a bit easier, but I do agree that those horizontal 1960's are pretty sweet.

I have also always been partial to 1965 Topps...maybe someday when the kids are grown up!

Starting out tracking the set...9 cards at a time.

1 Hank Aaron 74 HL
2 Lou Brock 74 HL
3 Bob Gibson 74 HL
4 Al Kaline 74 HL
5 Nolan Ryan 74 HL
6 Mike Marshall 74 HL
7 Bosman/Busby/Ryan HL
8 Rogelio Moret
9 Frank Tepedino

#1 Aaron and #9 Tepedino. And thus ends the only time in recorded history these two baseball players were mentioned in the same sentence.

The large lot I bought (and most of the add-ons) are in REALLY nice shape. Part of me loves that, and part of me hates that as I'll probably be forced to make the rest of the cards I pick up at least EXMT to match.

Damn me and my disdain for "fuzzy corners".

To make it easier to track exactly what I'm missing, I'm going to update the checklist page to strike out all the cards I have.

That should make it easier for me to shop for missing cards (and for any of you with 75's to sell or trade to see what I need).
