Taken 3 minutes to place one bid online.. Hopefully the 30 minute rule does not play a factor with the speed of the site.

I got it for less than I thought it would go for. Suspect that the slow load on Mastro may have benefited me.

...that this card was overpriced, like Steve and his Weaver, I too was prepared to go much higer. I am thrilled that I didn't have to sell off any more of my collection. I am strictly in "acquire" mode again! Phew!

...seeing as I had to sell 75% of my T206 collection to afford the Plank, I'm not sure how the math works for me to sell anything to get a Wagner. Seems to me we're a loooooonnnng way off of that one.

I went for this Plank at this time, because its the perfect storm of Planks in the two auctions, and I just don't see this card coming back down to earth any time soon. With all the people that have compiled near sets on ebay over the past several years, the rarities are really starting to take off, in my opinion.

I love the crackling effect myself, reminds me of a fine oil painting
That must be an amazing feeling knowing you have the funds to go after a card like that, waiting to pull the trigger, and then finally realizing you will be its new owner. Truly, congrats.

Thanks, Guys. I too was remarking about how the crackling gives it a nice effect. His image is surprisingly well preserved, notwithstanding the extensive damage.

After I saw Mastro and REA list 4 T206 Planks, I knew it was now or never. So I sold 80% of my collection (total cards, not value -- I held on to Magie, 3 Cobbs, 3 Matties, etc.) on the B/S/T. But still I was worried about funding since I bought three autographed T206 cards on ebay with my Plank money this week -- didn't think there would ever be a collection of T206 autos on ebay, let alone the week of the Mastro/REA auctions! I was preparing to raise another couple of thousand by selling off more cards, but am happy to report I didn't have to do that.

Thanks again!

The Joss appeared to be in the best condition. Also Joss photos in general are rare as he died so early. Though not sure why the Speaker was cheapest.

The Lajoie was in the roughest shape. Though this is a case where a collector can pick his favorite and can't be wrong.

I was very pleased with my pick-up of an 1886 J Wood Studio Cabinet of HOF'er Tim Keefe which was Authenticated by SGC for $1,300 + juice. The card has some haziness but I think it's still a great but at that price. I also had my eye on the Roger Connor & Mickey Welch but those went for a little more although the winner of the Welch also got an excellent value in my opinion.

I didn't think the prices were weak at all.

As for the auction, the server was slow, kicked me off, ridiculous. How would you like to be a consignor and know for a fact that certain bids couldn't be placed because Mastro apparently didn't anticipate the traffic (again)?

My suggestion for Doug is that the $75 catalog fee they charge in order to make Mastro a "first class" auction house should be increased to $7500 and the BP should be increased to 100 percent. I feel fairly comfortable that those numbers will make things even better for Mastro because apparently charging the highest BP and the catalog fee is just not getting it done!

Edited to add: Leon, I have a suggestion for a new poll.

What would you rather have from Mastro?

a) Mastro-stamped packing tape so that you won't forget who is sending you your package from Mastro?

b) Mastro-produced slick promotional DVD that will remind you that Mastro is the greatest and firstest ratest auction house?

c) More advertisting from Mastro so that you won't forget that Mastro is the greatest and firstest ratest auction house?

d) Higher BP and SP from Mastro so that Mastro can continue to be the greatest and firstest ratest auction house?

e) An internet auction from Mastro that actually functions well when it actually matters?

Given the early reports that the server was being slow, I opted to place my bid for the Plank by telephone with about 10 minutes left in extended bidding. There was no delay, and I got the benefit of a call back (which, thankfully, never happened) if I were outbid.

Paul,

I am so thrilled that you got a Plank. Good for you!! I wondered why you were selling off large parts of your collection the past few weeks - thought maybe you were changing focus. It was inconceivable to me that you would be in anything but T206's. Now that I see what was behind it, it all makes sense.

GOOD FOR YOU!!

Joann

On both nights with 7 to 8 minutes left, after the 30 minute rule went into effect, we were unable to log on or bid. REA and his consignors will reap the benefit of the Mastro misfortune. Instead of apportioning our budget to both auctions, REA will get 100%.

Telephone? What's that? We were too busy being frustrated. Also figured we would get through in time.
