This is probably the same thing I encountered a few weeks ago. I had been watching the sale of a unique manuscript item and, low and behold, the next day the very same auction showed up (photos and description) from a different seller with a perfect and large feedback rating. The item sold quickly with a "buy it now". I fired off messages to ebay Safeharbor fraud protection and they shut it down the next day. Unfortunately, the auction had already ended with a $1000 buy it now. What happens is a scammer steals a clean ID off of a seller buy sending out bogus ebay emails requesting their ebay password (it looks official - I've received them before). They then change where the emails are sent, put up a fake auction using someone elses auction material, make it a BIN and try to get quick payment. It's almost getting out of control.

Rob,

I'm familar with those emails and don't even open them. I will say....I've never responded to any and they would have had to guess at my password or gotten it from ebay somehow. Think I outta change my ebay password? I will also say he used my same description ...just reworded some.

Thanks for telling me where to go, I'm tempted to BIN, but don't wanna get myself in trouble. Thanks, Keith

Your account is probably fine if you haven't responded to any of their emails. They most likely hijacked the current seller's account (Prelin). They then go into their account information and change where Prelin's emails go to...unbeknownst to Prelin.
All they did with your old auction is copy and paste it into this auction. They copy and paste the high dollar auctions that have already closed.

Rob,

I'm currently at work, spent the last half hour trying to find where and who to report this too. Need some help here, I have to leave (work related) in a few minutes. I will be back after lunch.

Can you report it, or leave instructions for me? I was all over that site map, fraud protection, etc etc, more frustrating then anything.

I did email the guy that bought it from me as well as the seller of it currently.

I'm still tempted to BIN just to stop it. Whadda ya think? Keith

With regard to the BIN....The scammers aren't gonna leave you a negative feedback so I guess you could. Then tell them you want your friend "Knuckles" to pick it up for you and that you need their physical address.

I sent a report in but it would probably be more effective coming from you. When you get a chance, send a report in through the following site:
