Triple Crown...the hardest feat in sports????
Posted By: Scott Fandango
With Albert Pujols finishing 2nd in Average, 4th in RBI's and 4th in Hr's, what player can get closer than this, and will it ever be done again? with all or nothing sluggers such as Howard, the Triple crown may never be seen again! |

it will be done again. although I'm sure gehrig's '34 season will never be surpassed. I'm not sure pujols can do it at this point with his elbow problem and at least ryan howard to compete with in home runs, but miguel cabrera has a good chance. |

Wilson did had a great season in 1930 but he batted "only" .356 which was well down the leader list as the NL batted over .300 as a whole that year. |

I think we will see a triple crown before a .400 Ave. or 30 win season . In an off year someone could win a triple crown like Yaz in "67 with .326 , 44 , 121 . Granted those were pitcher tough years . I should add that a year later Mclain was the last 30 game winner . |

Even a "career" triple crown is a tough thing to accomplish. I don't have a list of the players who have led their league in all 3 batting categories at least once in their careers...does one exist? |

1901 Lajoie , 1909 Cobb , 1933 Foxx , 1934 Gehrig , 1942-47 Williams ,1956 Mantle , 1966 Frank Robinson ,1922-25 Rogers Hornsby , 1933 Chuck Klein , 1937 Medwick . Upon further review , those are pretty much baseball Gods . Maybe so . |

Yaztremski did this also. WHat a great guy too. When I was very young I wrote to several players and Yaz would always send a letter and extra signed pictures of himself. Cannot say enough about a player like him. |

He may not be remembered as one of the Greats (or even remembered at all by some) but Paul Hines is recorded as the 1st Triple Crown winner in 1878. He hit .358 with 4 HR and 50 RBI in 62 games in that year. |

The pitching one probably isnt held in high regard because its been done more than twice as often,36 times as opposed to just 16 for batting. Its also been done 8 times since the last batting triple crown. |
