Default December pickups

A day early, but what the hell...
Just completed this Fred Toney Hippo Vaughan framed project that I have been working on for a while. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

On May 2, 1917 in Chicago, Cincinnati Reds pitcher and Chicago Cubs pitcher James "Hippo" Vaughan squared off in a pitching duel for the ages.
For the first and only time in ML baseball, both pitchers hurled 9 innings of no-hit ball.
In the 10th inning Hippo Vaughan allowed the first run to score allowing Fred Toney and the Reds to complete the no-hitter and walk away the winner!

Here is a Type I photo of Toney's last out trophy ball, the ticket and a few other cool items that commemorated the game.
The second I found the photo in 2020, I knew that I would find a way to frame this and get this bad boy up on the wall.

Always on the lookout for "affordable" ways to collect Ruth pieces for the hobby room. These Ruth underwear items fit the bill, one being the small wooden bat the other, the box itself with the beaming Babe. This should be a really good thread this month !

A few of my recent pickups. The Johnny O Neil bat I just received to go along with his contracts and letters from his days with the Phillies and PCL. A 1949 Mickey Vernon GU bat, 1996-97 Rickey Henderson GU bat and a 1965 Don LeJohn GU bat. LeJohn was on the 65 Championship Dodgers team with only one at bat in the series.

Default Awesome mail day

I love it when I find an old bat label I haven't seen before.
Has anyone heard of the Cincinnati Soaker brand?

And, a very cool Zinn Beck 200.

Just got this one back from Michaels this Morning.Glad to add it to my Montreal Expos ticket collection.
"In a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Expos Houston Astros Superstar Nolan Ryan became the all-time strikeout leader by striking out Brad Mills in the 8th inning. his 3509th strikeout surpassed the record held for 55 years by the Great Walter Johnson."
Note* it was discovered many years later That Walter Johnson had in fact 3509 strikeouts and not 3508, so this ticket actually tied the record and not surpassed it. I love it either way.

Doug, that 1891 Leslie's cover is a stunner! Adding to my ever-expanding wantlist!

Happy to pick up this item for my Cleveland Baseball Magazines Collection, a Mar 7 1965 copy of El Figaro (Mexico) featuring the "Gran Figura," Luis Tiant.

I did not set out to collect so many Latin American magazines, but I find myself with about a dozen now, with many more amazing Beisbol magazines to be had!

Tell the truth. You bought this for the chica on the cover.
