The quality is just fine. Chris, I also feel Topps went out of their way to really get the beautiful blue background color, and the color of Mickey's face, JUST RIGHT on the 1952 Topps. I bought one of those, too, and just am thrilled by it as well.

Hope you pull some beauties, bro. Happy collecting. --- Brian Powell
Just pulled from the 3 packs today-
Tho i have questions??????
I noticed on the 51B it doesnt have the 70 logo on it and the 53B as well.
I totally was impressed getting both the 51& 52 and also the dice game.

Hey, Chris. That's a mighty nice array of those 2021 Topps X Mickey Mantle cards you have there! So glad you pulled the Dice Game; that baby is such a beauty. For such a mysterious and alluring card that's as rare as rare can be, wasn't it nice of Topps to allow us Mantle collectors the privilege of owning a genuine well-done reprint?

My guess as to the absence of the 70 logo on the two Bowmans is because Topps did not own Bowman at the time.

Cheers. --- Brian Powell

Big fan of that Rawlings poster-- cool piece. Been hard to find any nice Mick cards lately; seems they're locked away in collections these days and things have dried up quite a bit.

I've been playing around on this app on my laptop creating collages of cards and this one is my favorite. Figured any Mantle guys would dig it. The pop data on these signed vintage Micks continues to amaze me, for example around 8200 unsigned 1959s in the PSA pop report versus only 24 signed. Only 19 signed 1952 Bowmans out there, etc. And then when they surface, you gotta hope the auto isn't faded and is in a good place, and that the card is just not 90/10 OC. The 51 and 52T signed have sailed way out of range for me, but I hope to one day track down nice dual-signed copies of the multi-star Mantles, with Aaron, Berra, and Mays. I think they're out there...somewhere LOL.

Recently picked up a 63 Mantle, from a member on here (thank you, Anthony) I've been searching for the "right" one for a while, I think this fits the bill for now. Presents very nicely, and gets me a little closer to my goal. I'm now only missing the 51 Bowman, 65 Topps, 67 Topps and a 69 Topps, in my journey to get a Mantle from every year from his career. I do eventually want to add a 52 and 53 Topps to my collection. The latter is more realistic than the former. With the former, I'm going to have to wait until retirement, as teaching unfortunately does not pay nearly enough for me to afford a 52 Mantle at the moment!

Those signed Mantles, are a beauty. Love seeing those.

I'm happy to have another true Mantle RC in the pc...albeit not as nice as the one I sold a few years before the big run up. This one will do for now!

I also congratulate you for the way you've framed the the 1954 Sports Ill. paper Yanks--nice.

As an aside, I sure as anything wish Topps had used that breathtaking George Silk portrait of our Mickey, used by Sports Illustrated to make their paper Mantle, to craft their recent 2021 Topps X Mickey Mantle card. They chose the same original photo used on his '52 Bowman, which I hate because of Mick's serious, almost irritated expression on his face. The glorious George Silk portrait would have been perfect. Topps did everything else correct on the front---nice light blue background, great black 'n white extra photo, and the right period autograph. Topps screwed up the backside, however, giving the SAME backside they used on their 1955 Topps Mantle creation!

Not to be vain, but they shouldda asked me, which would never happen anyway as I'm a nobody. But, I'm right this time!

My suggestion is to rectify the situation---make a run of exactly 100 of the way the 1954 would look with the George Silk photo, and create a right proper 1954 backside. Have them all graded at least PSA 10 and identified as "UPDATE VERSION". I'll leave it to the Topps people how to market those modern gems. All right, I can dream can't I!

All the best to you, AustinMike. You sure have a rousing hobby den, sir. Kudos, bro!!! --- Brian Powell
An update, my son loaded up a scan of a Mickey Mantle show card from the 80s-early 90s that's a colorized version of the 1954 Sports Illustrated paper Mantle with the very same George Silk photo I was speaking of. Love it so much. The combo of the beautiful light blue color and that b&w photo is perfect and works, just like the 1961-62 Fleer basketball. Anyway, for what it's worth.... --- Brian Powell

Nothing huge, but I'm stoked to add this to my small/rebuilding collection.
Thanks to fellow board member Lucas.

I don't see any "major issues", and the centering is as good as I will ever need in my own PC. (I still have a PSA 8 of this same issue that looks amazing, but I liked the price and wanted to add another)

I will likely send this to SGC along with a few others very soon.

Default Mantle Signed 1956 Spring Training Hotel Stationary

I was able to place this partial team signed hotel stationary to 1956 with Maurice McDermott playing his only season with the Yankees during Mickey's Triple Crown performance at the plate.

Great Pickup! Always interesting to see how Mantle's signature has evolved through the years. From his early career, to his show signature!

Another modest pick up. Received it today, and I am in the process of slowly rebuilding my Mantle collection.

Sorry for the massive picture, my Imgur is a pain in the ass lately.

Just picked up this Mantle glove and box. Trying to find out info on year it was released etc. So far I have learned the glove, model MM9 was issued over many years in a few different boxes.

My father, in his recent travels has stumbled across a few nice Mick-related oddball type pieces.
I figured you all might like to see these......especially those amongst us that haven't seen these yet. (I hadn't ever seen 2 of these items until a couple days ago)
None of it is "expensive", but if you haven't seen either of these items before, then they might be of interest.

MICKEY MANTLE "His Final Inning" -
This is actually a fold out pamphlet, not a card. These were apparently printed in 1998 for the "American Tract Society", and they were reprinted again in 2012 for "Good News Tracts".
This is basically several pages long, and it gives a brief look over Mantle's career. After a few stats it briefly goes over the length of his career and finally ends with Mantle turning to God/becoming a Christian with the help of longtime friend Bobby Richardson.
It is worth a read, even if you aren't overly religious.
These are widely available too, and you can find them on Ebay around the clock for less than $10.

The gold colored card at the bottom of this picture is a die cut 1997 Scoreboard Mickey Mantle Collection.
The back of the card reads "For Promotional Use Only".
It lists his career '51-'68, and the date he was inducted into the HOF.

The final piece is the most interesting.
It is basically a die-cut oversized card, from the same 1997 Scoreboard GOLD Mickey Mantle.
Its celebrating the 30th anniversary of his 500th career home run.
Like most newer products, this is indeed NUMBERED......... 5784/7000, It can also be found on Ebay, and these go from $10 - $50.

Nothing Earth-shattering here, but I'd never seen a couple of these cards. Plus my Father snagged them for me gives them some sentimental value.
The Mantle "super collectors" might want to check out the "30th anniversary of his 500th home run" card.....if they haven't seen it already
It might not be of tremendous value, but it looks great~!

Default 1953-55 Dormand Mickey Mantle Postcard

Been a little while since I`ve added anything to this, one of my favorite, threads. Picked up this early Mantle piece from our own B S T section, thanks Craig for such a smooth transaction Sir. Postcard is HUGE, 9 X 12 inches and in nice shape. Always on the lookout for affordable Mantle items and this fit my collection to a tee.

I'm absolutely floored after getting this one in-hand today. I had given up even believing that centered copies of this card existed.

All of you fellow centering nuts know what I'm talking about here...

Default Help with info on Mick's Manny's Baseball Land premium

Hi Gang:

I just picked up the below Manny's Baseball Land premium. This is listed as such on Kelly Eisenhower's site. He says year unknown. You can see it on page 5 in this link:

http://mickeymantle7.net/mantle-premiums-2/

Yet looking at the top rated Mantle Master set on the PSA registry it shows a different pose listed as 1961. See also below in a PSA holder. I do not see this listed as Manny's in Kelly's list. I may have missed it.

So, my questions are

Are both of these Manny Baseball Land issues? Or is the PSA mislabeled or is Kelly's listing incorrect?

Any help appreciated

Yet looking at the top rated Mantle Master set on the PSA registry it shows a different pose listed as 1961. See also below in a PSA holder. I do not see this listed as Manny's in Kelly's list. I may have missed it.

So, my questions are

Are both of these Manny Baseball Land issues? Or is the PSA mislabeled or is Kelly's listing incorrect?

Any help appreciated
Hey Fred,

I hope you are doing well!

They are both Manny Land Baseball photos. The photo with Mick in a batter's pose came with the Manny Land Yankee team set. The other is listed as a 1965 issue by KeyManCollectibles.

http://keymancollectibles.com/photos...landphotos.htm

There's also another Manny Land Baseball Mantle photo. It's basically the same photo as the one identified as a 1965 issue by Manny Land. But it has a slightly different cropping and it is attached to a Maris photo. It is 11 by 17.

[Sorry about the large photos]

Hey Mike:

Thanks for the reply and link to Keyman.

Keyman says:

In 1965, Manny's issued additional pictures that measure 9x11. The larger pictures featured new players, and some like Mickey Mantle, with a different pose.

However my photo measures the "normal' 8x10 not the 9x11 they note the 1965 Mantle is.

Does yours measure 8x10 or 9x11?

And another PSA anomaly, one of many that do not make sense to me, why is the 1961 Manny's on the checklist for the Mantle master set and not the 1965 Mantle from Manny's??

Am I reading this wrong or were they acting like Charles was his first name and 'Mickey' (in air quotes) was merely a nickname??

One of my favorite objects of mantle I own. And funnily one of the cheapest you can get. Love the atmosphere this photo gives off. Would've loved to get a burger and eat on one of Mick's baseball tables.
But just as cool as the decor, is the story the back tells.

Strong rain and the spotting of several tornadoes caused these travellers to head to Joplin and take shelter at Mick's holiday inn.
Unfortunately I don't think they were there for the Mick!

Would love to hear a story or two if anyone has stayed there in the past of how it was.

Fred, mine is 8x10 also. I looked at several Manny's ads from the 60s and never saw any mention of 9x11 photos for sale. Not sure where KeyMan got the larger dimensions. I do know that he says the Mantle/Maris combined photo is 11x14. That is incorrect. It's 11x17. Mine is 11x17 and a few of the ads I looked at indicate it is 11x17. KeyMan stating it is 11x14 could easily be a typo (hitting the 4 instead of the 7 above it). I'm not so sure the 9x11 claim can be so easily dismissed.

As to the PSA question, it's probably because nobody has requested it be added or it was requested to be added but PSA declined because of insufficient information.

I agree with you, the story on the back greatly enhances the card. Great find!

Mike, good info for Fred. I asked Steven where he got the 1965 date, but have not yet heard back.

Wanted to show the 1962 Topps 318 “e” and no “e” variation that I mentioned in the variations thread.

I’m sure my fellow Mick collectors will want to pick up both examples. Well, maybe Chris and Mike will
The with “e” seems to be tougher to find.

Stop it Ben, okay, just stop it!

Yeah, I'll have to make sure I have both. That means I'll need to find the one I have so I can make sure I get the other version. This just makes me realize how unorganized my "stuff" is. Haven't found it yet, but I'll look some more later today.

In regards to the question about the Manny's photos, that brings up another question. Why are they called "Manny's" baseball photos. In going through the ads on:

http://mickeymantle7.net/rare-ads-1961-1964/

I noticed ads from Marshall Oreck also offering 8x10 photo sets of the 18 MBL teams. I would guess they are the same ones sold by Manny's. This means Manny's Baseball Land was only a retail seller of the photos as was Oreck. So who actually produced the photos and what should they be called?

Interesting Mike… it is so tough to accurately checklist all of his oddball items.

Fred, this is what Steven sent me:
“The $1.00 "Special 11x17 of Maris & Mantle facing each other" is listed in a 1963 order form as such, and pictured in a 1964-'65 catalog. I've seen the 11x17 you have but not in a catalog, so I can't say what year your 11x17 was first issued.

The "8x10" photos were issued in an odd size in 1965, 9" x 11" as evident by a couple of sets that have surfaced dated by the players that are in the set. The Mickey Mantle Swinging I believe were issued a number of years measuring 8x10, from 1961-1964, but the 9x11, was issued in 1965.”

I don’t have the 9x11, so another something I will “need”.

By chance did anyone else see the cupola from the Joplin hotel for sale on eBay? Pretty wild

Vary interesting. So, there's an 11x17 of "Maris & Mantle facing each other" that is not the one we have? If so, I guess that's another one to add to the wantlist along with the 9x11 version.

Yeah, I saw the cupola listing on eBay. Only $999,999 (or best offer) plus $20,000 shipping. You getting it?

Thanks Ben. Now it’s going to take me an hour to go through my collection to see how many 1962 Topps I have and whether I have both versions….
