I had to laugh when I ran across this card on ebay...

s-l1600.jpg

...because it reminded me of what I consider one of the most ridiculous cards ever, the 1972 Ron Swoboda, where the picture was seemingly taken from the top button of his Mets uniform to obscure his move to the Bronx...

I wonder if the Topps staff had visited Easter Island in 1971, drawing inspiration from their photos of the moai?

The company M.O. at the time must have been..."Okay, if we don't have a picture of the player on his current team, find one where the camera was put against his chest, pointed straight up, and a photo was snapped of his chin, so no one will bother noticing he's wearing the 'wrong' jersey and cap."

just topps being cheap...not even wanting to paint caps on players who had been traded...as they did (horribly!) for several other...similar to the first several series of 1966 ATLANTA Braves...none even had a cap on.

Interesting thing about the '72 Swoboda card. As he is on a Yankees card, and Topps will have you believe he's in a Yankee uniform, if you look under Ron's cap, you'll see the #4. Apparently the Yankees unretired Lou Gehrig's uniform number when they obtained Ron Swoboda.
