Default 1982 Topps

Me again.

Looking for the following information on 1982 Topps:
1) One wrapper promotion advertised Topps card collector's sheets - any ideas as to what these were? What manufacturer? I assume Topps didn't start making their own, but I don't know.
2) Blue Grocery pack box image needed
3) yellow or blue grocery pack case information needed - I have one image of a case with 2 boxes inside - were blue and yellow groceries packaged the same way?
4) Were racks issued in 6 box cases as well as 3?
5) Any sheet images would be appreciated - I have 5 (B, C, D, E and F) but none are of great quality or orientation.
6) Image needed of traded set case
7) What is this image? I found it on TCDB - was there a factory set issued in 1982? Another image there shows the box has a CR date of 1982, so....

1982 was the first full factory issued set. As far as I am aware it was only available in the JC Penney Christmas Catalog (If someone has a correction for that please add). There were very few sold and a full set in original packaging (the photo is correct above) is worth quite a chunk depending on who is looking at the time.

Edit for an addition -

I am sure you likely already have it, but please remember to add the 1982 Topps League Leaders Promo sheet. If I had a dollar for every time I was asked what a handcut of the Reggie/Gorman Thomas card was or saw an incorrect listing on eBay saying it was some proof or test issue, I could have bought a nice Mantle.

I have the sheet - but it was from 1983 not 1982. You won one if you uncovered 3 singles on the Winning Lineup scratch off game card in the '83 packs.

According the back of the game card, they only made 250K....

As far as grocery racks go...the blue wrappers are leftover 1981 wrappers. Topps used those until they were gone, then shifted over to the yellow wrappers which were the actual 1982 wrappers. They were distributed two different ways: in the red grocery trays, packaged 24 to a tray, three trays to a case; they were also distributed 192 racks to a display case. The display case unfolded to stand up, and then the 192 racks were on display for purchase inside that larger display. Hope that helps.

If one wants to get persnickety, 1974 was the first full factory issued set. And that was through JC Penney catalog and stores. They show up from time to time and are definitely scarce and come at a premium when they do go up for sale.

Wasn't the 1974 set also a JC Penny offering?

Did they include either the traded set or the team checklists?

The top of the box mentions "over 700 cards". 660 + Traded (44) gets the set to 704. I do not believe or remember that the red team checklists were included as well. Base set and traded, for sure.

I remember seeing these in our local JC Penney store, but I was a '14 year old collector purist' and knew the only way to collect baseball cards was to buy packs....

Silly me.

Thanks for the info Butchie!

That one had slipped by me, I had either forgotten or didn't know about the factory 74s.

I have a 1983 JC Penney set that was given to me for christmas. It came in a taped basic white card storage box with a rubber stamp on the end stating it was a 1983 Topps Set.

I have always assumed these were third party items. Do you know who provided those Christmas sets to JC Penney between the 82 and 85 sets?
