We usually trash 'em; this deal was so smooth I wanted to comment. I ordered an E92 Dockman Jennings from Mike Wheat on Saturday; not only is the card just what I expected, I got it today.

He just got in a very large group of T-206's and sold me some nice cards with Hindu backs (including a S/Ler) at very reasonable prices.

I recently purchased a port T206 Nap Rucker he had listed on his website as NM+ and it was every bit of that. A bit pricey for a raw card, but I am satisfied. I also bought a Downs he listed as ExMt+ but it had a tiny surface wrinkle. Still pretty pleased though. I got the cards lightning fast too.

Heck, about half of my vintage collection has come from Mike Wheat!
To me he's a great dealer, first class. I think I have bought from Mike's catalogue or auctions on 50 different occasions (some very large purchases) No problems ever!

While I'm at it, how about a couple props to some of the board members that I have had the pleasure of transacting with lately:

Barry Sloate, David Seaborn and Bill Cornell. Five stars for these guys !!

Great job !

More stars might be given out, you just have to go to BST and see my post about wanting low grade E cards !!! <hint, hint> Thanks!!

One of the few old-school dealers I will buy from.

Barry Sloate's another great one...and John Billingsley. Actually, the list is very long...John Richmond, John Spencer and Mike Williams, the Wentz's, all have been extremely helpful with advice about cards, etc.

I just bought some stuff from Mike and it was fine. He did a good job for me. I did have one pretty big issue a few years ago that didn't really ever get worked out, but really I was a 3rd party bystander anyway. It was about an altered T205 NMT-MT Cobby he had on his site. He denied it as altered and said I didn't know what I was talking about. I did know in that case as I was the one that sent it in to SGC and it came back trimmed AND altered. I do believe this was probably an honest mistake though. At the same time I did want to at least point out a mistake that was made, imo.......btw, I had originally bought that card from good 'ole Norm (I live with my parents and work at a prison) Showers. Norm had told me he got it from some Amish tobacco farmers in PA.....don't really know about all that but I guess the Amish wanted it to look better....or maybe it wouldn't fit in their Amish card sleeves . I returned it to Norm and I guess Mike got it from Norm....but it was on Mike's site with no mention of an issue EVEN after I emailed him about it..... regards

Dave -

There's a full list of dealer sites, including Mike Wheat's, on the Vintage Links page on this site.

Recently purchased some t206 commons from Mr. Wheat and they all came up short (and not in the "t206 are all cut differently" way), a couple were obvious trims. I am not accusing Mike of anything, from past dealings he has been top notch. However, with such a large and oscillating inventory, perhaps he purchased a bad batch? Has anybody, had the same recent experiences?

I've received trimmed cards from almost every dealer and auction house I have done business with, most probably not noticed by them (so no malice intended on their part IMO).

This is why you need to be able to spot trims (as you did) and simply purchasing from reputable sources is not enough, but very important if you want such issues resolved (as Mike will do, I'm sure). I know I just built a case for buying graded cards, but that's only if you don't feel comfortable spotting trims.
