Default Help with 1950s-era Cleveland Indians ticket prices

Posted By: Rob D.

I'm trying to pinpoint the year of a pair of Cleveland Indians ticket stubs that I have. I've narrowed it down considerably, but what I need to know is the team's ticket prices for the 1950 season (specifically lower-reserve seats).

I've checked the 1950 media guide and come up empty. My guess is that the info might be found in an Indians regular-season program from 1950, of which I have none. A check of 1951 and '52 sketch books turned up nothing, but I do not have a 1950 edition, so I cannot say for sure whether the info is there.

While knowing 1950 prices would nearly nail this down for me 100 percent, finding out ticket prices from 1944 also would be useful.

Thanks for any help on this shot in the dark.

Rob

Default Help with 1950s-era Cleveland Indians ticket prices

Hi Rob--

I have an Indian Scorecard booklet from 1949. I just looked thru it twice thinking I would find something about ticket prices, but NOT a THING!

I do have a couple of stubs w/ prices from 1957, but that's as close as I can come.

1950 - I have a scorecard from August 6, 1950 Indians home game vs the Yankees, there is no mention of ticket prices anywhere within it's 20 pages.
The ticket stub for that game is priced at $1.50 in the upper reserve, section 35, row A, seat 5.

1949 - My scorecards for the May 29, 1949 doubleheader vs the White Sox have a mention on page 6 and an ad on page 14 for $1.50 reserved seats ($0.90 for children under 12)

1948 - A scorecard from September has an ad for season tickets, but no prices.

The scorecard from the May 23, 1948 game vs the Yankees (Joe D goes 4 for 4 with 3 HRs) has an ad on page 14 with Box seats $2 ($1.40 children under 12) and reserved seats $1.50 ($0.90 children under 12)

1946 - The 12 page scorecard from the July 26, 1946 game vs Washington has no mention of ticket prices.

Hope this info is helpful,
Doug

Thanks, Doug, that is helpful.

The two ticket stubs in question were part of a large group of ones from the late 1940s and early to mid-50s. They're marked Sunday July 2, with a face value of $1.50 for the lower-reserve location.

A check of perpetual calendars shows that during a 30-year span, July 2 fell on a Sunday in 1939, 1944, 1950, 1961 and 1967. The Indians' 1961 media guide does list ticket prices, and reserve seats were more than $1.50. I know my ticket stubs aren't from 1939 becauee they're the wrong design. So that left 1944 and '50. These don't look like any early to mid-1940s Indians stubs I have, so your info confirms a little bit more that these are from 1950.

July 2, 1950, is the date that Bob Feller notched his 200th career victory. Not a "big-ticket" ticket stub, but definitely worth keeping for the collection.

Thanks again for your help.

Rob

It has to be 1950. In 1944 the Indians played in Washington on July 2.

They played a double header on July 2, 1950. Hal Newhouser won the first game, Bob Feller the second.

Thanks, William. I was so caught up in the date/ticket price that it didn't dawn on me to check the schedules.

Thanks again.
