Default Adam Moraine - redux. And he answers me too.

Posted By: Richard Simon

This story posted with the permission of Leon.
-
In late August,2008 I received an e mail from Adam Moraine (I recognized him as a name from the board but not a piece of merchandise from the jerk store, thank you George Costanza), inquiring about a Mickey Cochrane autograph I had for sale on my website. Adam wanted me to describe it for him. I did that and then he requested a scan, which I did send to him.(everything in this post is documented by e mails, which I have). He kept stating that this was an autograph he always wanted for his vast Hall of Fame autograph collection. (vast is his term, not mine).
He begged me to hold it for him for one month and then he would pay me the $150 price for it. I asked him to send me a $25 non refundable deposit and that if he did so, I would hold the autograph for him.
After about a week elapsed I had not received the deposit. I wrote to him and he said he changed his mind and would pay me in full right away.
After another week elapsed, and no payment arrived from Adam, I wrote to him again. I have yet to receive any reply from him.
I did a search on Net 54 and found that Adam has been barred from Net 54. It takes a lot for Leon to bar anyone, but Adam made the grade.
I decided to post this story in case any other person here received an order from Adam. They should know what to expect.
I just got a reply from Adam, here it is, pretty sad if you ask me.
--
"You must have plenty of time of your hands to speak ill of me on a lousey
internet forum. I was barred from Net54 because of my views/opinions of the
crappy conditioned cards that were being posted.I consider myself an investor.
I am nearly 28 years old. I have been in the "hobby" since 1988.I have things
that 50 year old men would die to have in their "collections". Anyway, people
on Net54 were posting T-206 cards and other cards that would grade a
PSA "authentic" or PSA 1. They were actually posting these cards with great
pride.... WTF???? As far as things being "rough" for me... When you raise your
five year old daughter, as a single parent, send her to a $400.00 per month
private school and have other regular monthly bills to pay come back and talk
to me. Sorry, but I had priorties to make. Not all of us reside in bleeding
heart liberal, (McCain/Palin 08') over priced New York (hope your home gets
foreclosed on. My house is bought and paid for at 27 years old.) Hell, I know
of another dealer/investor who has three other Cochrane's for sale that are
PSA/DNA slabbed.I have excellent business relations and standings with him. I
have autographs of Speaker, Mack, Hornsby, Baker and Ott thanks to him, at
only 27 years old! The reason why I went through you is because your Cochrane
was being offered at a lower price and because of your noterity in the hobby.

Sincerely,

Mr. Adam J. Moraine"

and in a follow up -
"Tell your "authentic"/PSA 1 card collecting
cronies on Net 54 I said, "hello"."

Big deal. I had all those autographs while still in my teens. And I played the violin and spoke three languages fluently before the age of two. So there.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

"...I was barred from Net54 because of my views/opinions of the crappy conditioned cards that were being posted..."

Not quite.

I was the one that actually banned Adam. He's entitled to his opinions on cards and whatnot, but he was banned because in addition to being overly and needlessly arrogant about said opinions, he'd start fights constantly with other board members and he resorted to personal attacks when others didn't agree with him. I warned him about it and he paid me no attention so off he went. I can see by the email above that not much has changed except now apparently he's not following through on deals either.

Thanks for the clarification. That was when I was on a family vacation to Las Vegas......I didn't go into the details with Richard but thought others should know that there is a renegger out there.

Webster's Dictionary

Moraine: "A mass of rocks and sediment deposited by a glacier."

Sounds about right.

This is kinda funny too, for someone who renegs on $150,,,
his e mail address is moneyman11380@,,,,,,.com.
Something is wrong with this guys ego if he has to self title himself moneyman. His rant is something from an eight year old. And his spell check is obviously not working.

Two thoughts:

1) I wish my kids' private school cost $400 a month;
2) I think I have to vote for Obama now.

I'd almost forgotten about that hissy fit, Dan. I seem to remember hearing that several college coaches called him afterward to congratulate him.

If we're veering into diatribe mode, this seems an opportune time for Hal McRae, who if memory serves, tended to be a pretty mild mannered guy...

Back to that discussion about living in NYC v. Iowa (or Arizona).

It's nice to see that Adam has grow up nicely in the last three years.

If he is grown up now, I hate to think what he was like when he was a member of this board and arguing with all the guys who were foolish enough to post their cards that were graded 1 or A. What a jackass he sounds like, I actually feel sorry for that kid, having only one parent and being unlucky enough to have it be him.

Just for accurate information...

According to his Myspace page...he is still a clerk at the local Quik Trip.

So if Adam has done all he has said then I commend him on raising his daughter and buying massive amounts of memorabilia on his salary.

Still does not excuse him from being a deadbeat and an horse's behind.

...get into it pretty good with him on here, but he quickly shared a lot of personal information that made me realize that he is really a sad, sad person. And so I began feeling bad piling on. It may not excuse his comments, but realizing the place they were literally coming from was a hole of depression and sadness made it impossible for me to respond anymore.

Let him stay under the rock where he lives. It doesn't do any good to lift up the rock and laugh at him some more.

That is still no excuse for reneging and then lying twice to me about the "check is in the mail." If you are going to reneg on me, don't tell me the check is in the mail, that is just a waste of my time. Why is it that renegers seem to think that lying on top of reneging is the way to go?

Ah, Adam. Does anyone else recall that he became interested in vintage baseball because today's players were only in it for the money? Did he ever buy those Sammy Sosa cleats he was looking at?

Not baseball, but something that any Sportscenter fan of the past 12 years can appreciate:
