Default 1880s Goodwin & Co Team Prints

I have a half dozen of these prints and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction of value/scarcity/etc. I included a couple photos below. On a side note, I attached a 1933 Delong Foxx photo which has to be a reprint but doesn't say reprint so figured it couldn't hurt to ask the experts to confirm. Appreciate any guidance.

The font at the bottom looks modern, so I wouldn't guess they have much collectible value, but I don't recall seeing them before. And yes, the Foxx is a reprint. Without getting into detail, the "look" of the card is all wrong.

No need to pile on, just wanted to state that I agree with the other assessments.

One of these prints appears to have sold way back in 2007 for $352.
https://catalog.scpauctions.com/LotD...ventoryid=7851

In this hobby, that was a very long time ago when trying to analyze price. You have to factor in condition when considering value too. They claimed that example was from the 1930's and that very well might be in the ballpark. It looks like the frames from the two examples shown here are similar to the one that sold at auction. Any markings or labels on the back of the frame? That could be a clue.

Here is a little more info on the prints: https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.co...isplay-photos/

"Old Judge Team Composite Displays

Last on the list, there are large (over 27 x 18 inches) team composite display photographs using the Old Judge images. Each composite photo represents a team and contains numerous smaller Old Judge images of players from that team. Unlike the Vermont Find displays, the images are not individual photographic prints pasted to a backing, but part of the overall photographic image. Also, the surrounding background and borders are light colored and the team name and “in the 1880s” are on the bottom border.

Though no one knows for sure, it is commonly believed that these team displays date to 1926 and were used to mark the 50th anniversary of the National League. Even though made a number of years after the original N172 and N173 Old Judges, these composite photos are rare and fetch good money at auction."

The Foxx is a reprint, but those other prints are intriguing. If you find these at a flea market for $1, BUY THEM!

Good luck.

REA has sold several and feels comfortable calling them circa 1926. REA sold four in 2020 for between $300-$500 each. Those four looked to be in pretty decent condition.

Here is one for reference:

I own 8 different teams of these. I would love the superbas one if you decide to sell

Also some of mine have the names hand written under the photos, so i wonder if the same person wrote them

Brock

Do you have a Washington Nationals? Curious if it has the writing as well, meaning there would then be duplicates with writing. Yours certainly look to have the same hand as the OP examples, cool stuff.

Nationals is one of the teams I’m missing.

Very interesting that the auction companies feel comfortable stating these are dating back to the 30’s. I certainly don’t claim proof that they are not, I just would be more comfortable with a possibility much more modern.

I would love to see a proven sale of these predating the 80s or the reasoning cited for their dating. As many state to have them, did you have these prior to the 80s shows?

I am also not picking on you in the least Trey, I just had to say the quote “way back in 2007” made me feel like I was damn near a million years old. Lol.

If they are genuine, they are from 1926 and are scarce and have good value

Hi David!

I did see that link above from Trey. The statement used “ Though no one knows for sure, it is commonly believed that these team displays date to 1926” in that article gives me just slightly less confidence in those sheets than the Roswell UFO crash.

I was just looking to see if we could crowdsource some knowledge as I love when I am looking into something and we have 2 members start talking about the scene when someone walked into the 1983 White Plains show with such and such…it’s pretty awesome.

- Editing to say I just noticed you wrote that entry! Not disavowing your findings in the least, did you have any other information when you put this together on the items you can offer? I feel like a full package or book of these would hopefully surface. Apologies again if my reading of the article sounded disrespectful, the logically safe wording just gave me continuing pause.

Thanks for all the information. I had this one as well which wasn't tied to a team and certainly differs from the rest I've now seen. Glad to hear there is at least a bit of value here. Appreciate it.

Ahh, you're not that old. I was only pointing to the fact that comps from 2007 are not very useful. The more recent REA comps are more relevant and some other sales can probably be found. For some comps, I would say "way back in 2021" is appropriate.

I agree that it would be interesting to hear more about these.

They are pretty rare. You don't see the for sale often.
