My favorite part,

When Ray is driving the Vdub down Huntington Avenue to see Terry Mann. Passing just outside the old L field fence of the Grounds.

A sampling of errors in Field of Dreams (from IMDB.com):

Factual errors: "Shoeless" Joe Jackson actually batted left-handed and threw right-handed.

Factual errors: When shoeless Joe Jackson brings the other banned members of the 1919 white sox to play at the field, one of them appears wearing catchers gear. None of the three players who caught games for the 1919 white sox were among the eight players banned.

Factual errors: Doc Graham actually batted left-handed.

Factual errors: Doc "Moonlight" Graham states in the movie that he was born in Chisholm, Minnesota, when in real life he was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Factual errors: The game at Fenway Park between the Red Sox and the Athletics takes place on May 16th, because it was the only Red Sox/Athletics game at Fenway in 1988 in which Jody Reed hit first, as indicated by Ray's lineup card. The scoreboard clock says 10:32, but the actual game concluded at approximately 9:50 that night.

Continuity: When Ray is driving around Boston, the weather jumps from sunny to rainy and back again between shots.

Miscellaneous: When the field lights are switched on, although there is only one circuit breaker by the house, the lights go on in groupings, as if there are multiple circuits.

Errors in geography: About midway through the film, when Ray and Terry leave Fenway Park, they are seen traveling "up" Landsdowne St., behind the left field wall, northbound. Landsdowne St. is a one way street headed in the opposite direction.

Continuity: In one of the scenes where Ray is watching the Black Sox play at his field, Jim Doty is seen hitting a ball, and then running to first. However, when the camera shows the player on first base, it is not Jim Doty.

YES....Ray Liotta (Joe Jackson) not only bats Right-handed in the movie, but throws Left-handed.

Joe Jackson threw Right-handed.

Everytime I see this movie, I have quite a laugh when James Earl Jones grabs his insect sprayer and begins to spray Kevin
Kostner, accusing him of being a "1960's hippie".

James Earl Jones is one of the "lasting treasures" in Hollywood....and, his voice is inimitable.

What is his "rookie" movie ?

You got it......

Slim Pickens (B52 pilot) to James Earl Jones (B52 Flight Engineer).....
" Are those bombay doors open, yet ? "

James Earl Jones to Slim Pickens.....
"Negative, Sir....the teleflex cable is damaged"

Slim Pickens to James Earl Jones.....
" Aw shucks....I'll just have to ride that bomb down myself and nuke those Rooshkees "

Am I close Howard, in paraphrasing the ending scene ?

I don't think my memory is as sharp as yours, Ted, but that sounds about right. A great scene from a great movie.

btw...one of my favorite baseball nicknames was for the defensively challenged Dick Stuart: Dr. Strangeglove

Jon, that photo of the house is a beauty. Does someone live there or is it just a tourist stop?

On my visit (during my honeymoon 9 years ago) I was surprised to discover that ownership of the actual field was split between two neighboring farms. The owner of Left and Center field had actually replanted corn after the movie shoot was done and the owner of the rest of the field left it as it was. Only after getting many complaints for replanting the corn, did the owner of left and center field plow the corn again and leave it as it is today. Of course, this gave the owner of the rest of the field a marketing edge as he was authentic to the movie. Now, there are two competing gift-shops on either side of the field; one for "the field of dreams" and one for "the left and center field of dreams."

James Earl Jones was in a great 1970's baseball movie called "Bingo Long's Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings"- a must see for any fan of the Negro Leagues. Billy Dee Williams played a pitcher loosely based on Satchell Paige and James Earl Jones a catcher based on Josh Gibson. A great movie!

More trivia.
Johnny Bench, George Brett & Bret Saberhagen were in this film as three of the old time players. Can anyone spot them?
Something to look out for tonight!

Another interesting piece of trivia was that both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were in the movie as extras in Fenway Park.

The Natural is my all time favorite - I got the special edition last year and it's got 15 extra minutes that got cut from the theatrical edition...makes a few things in the movie make sense. The book is also a favorite and vastly different from the movie, Roy Hobbs is a very dark character in Malamud's book. Eight Men Out is a close second and the special edition of that one just came out as well. I haven't gotten it yet though. I love Field of Dreams, but it's a little too fantasy like for me to place it up there with my favorites.

Eight Men Out did a much better portrayal of Joe Jackson. I like Ray Liotta, but come on now. They could have at least reversed the film to show him batting lefty. They had that technology in Gary Cooper's role.

Other than that, Field of Dreams is a classic.

Can't leave out The Sandlot in the realm of fine baseball movies.

From moviemistakes.com

Field of Dreams (1989) - 13 mistakes
Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, starring Burt Lancaster, James Earl Jones, Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta

Factual error: Joe Jackson batted left-handed in real life, not right-handed as Ray Liotta portrayed.

Visible crew/equipment: On some shots which look back at Ray when he's driving his pickup, it can be clearly seen at the bottom of the picture that the front wheels of the pickup are sitting on a trailer, which is itself being towed by the camera vehicle.

Continuity: In the scene where Ray has a catch with his father, Ray's brother-in-law's Jeep can be seen parked near the light pole along the third base line. In the next shot, the Jeep isn't there. When the shot again changes and the camera pans back, the Jeep is back by the pole.

Continuity: When Ray and Annie are at the PTA meeting, it is night when they go inside, but when they come out after Annie gets into the argument with the other woman, it is day (there is sunlight coming through the windows).

Continuity: When Ray first comes down for breakfast and "Harvey" is on TV, the Wonder Bread is next to the TV. But in the next shot the bread is farther to the right with the milk now between the TV and the bread, although Annie was not in the vicinity to have moved them. Soul of the Game and Bang the Drum Slowly.
Two of the very best baseball movies of all time.
And lest we forget, Damn Yankees with the great song, "You've Got to Have Heart."

I'm probably wrong on this, but every time I watch the scene where young Graham recognizes certain players on the diamond, it sounds to me like he says Smokin' Joe Wood. Anyone else hear this?

Kenneth- off the top of my head, i believe it goes like this:

"there's mel ott, tris speaker, smokey joe wood..."

then ray lioatta says, "yeah, ty cobb wanted to come too, but none of us could stand the SOB when he was alive, so we told him to stick it!"
