Default Hans Wagner trade card

Posted By: Anonymous

Hello to all from a 1st time poster. I recently acquired off ebay, a ca 1912 trade card from Carl Joseph Tailors of Chicago It is 5 x 7 inches and folds out to 5 x 14. On the front side is a printed photo of Hans Wagner with bat in hand following thru with a swing. It is the same photo seen on Max Stein postcard. Across the top of the front side are small printed photos of the NY Giants who were in the 1911 series. When you turn the card over there is a scorecard, stats from both leagues, and small photos of the 1911 Phil A's. There are also small photos of J Mcraw, Connie Mack, Ty Cobb, Ed Walsh, and another of Honus Wagner. Are any of you familiar with this item? Does anyone have an idea of its value? I am starting to think this is an unheard of item. Gee, if a baseball card with wagners picture on it, of which there are 50-75 known, can bring 2 mil at auction, what would a one of a kind item bring? Just dreaming a little there!! I have looked everywhere and can not even find a mention of this item at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jim

You have a world series advertising scorecard. They were pre-printed with a star of the day (Wagner, etc.) and then a local business would overprint their ad on them. There are a variety of players and teams depending on year (approx. 1911-1916 I think). Nice items but not very high-priced. Depending on condition and player (and WS teams) they can be had for around $150-$1,000.

Jim,

You can email most posters on these boards by clicking on their name, if it's highlighted in blue. If it's not highlighted, they chose to keep their email private. If you send the scan to me (or Dan) we will post it for you.

If so, it's a decent deal, but not a steal. There are a few one of a kind Wagner items and quite a few cards that are much more rare than the Wagner T206 but don't come near getting those T206 prices. (Heck his HOUSE went for under 200K)Why the disparity in prices has probably been a topic on the other board. That said, keep dreaming because collectors DO get lucky every once in awhile.
