Default CSG Card Grading Comp - 1st card on Ebay???

I believe this is the first CSG card I have ever seen on Ebay if anyone wants to follow it for comps. I wish it was vintage instead, but oh well.

dirty fingernails and only 3 feedback with an 80% rating. Not going to inspire a lot of confidence. We need good sellers to list some.

Default Grading

A 9.5 Gem Mint is only the 3rd highest grade on their scale. They also have a 10 Pristine and a 10 Perfect.

I wonder why they didn't use an 11 like the old SCD slabs?

Isn't that similar to BGS's Black Label?

Default I had no idea

I had never of CSG before today. I went to their web page and like what I see. I don't yet have an opinion on the holder size as I would have to see it in hand, but I like the info provided on the flip including the sub-grades.

I also read about another company today called HGA that uses a scanner and software to grade the card. They have a color coded flip which I think is attractive, and they also provide sub-grades. I never heard of them before today either.

Both companies have relatively quick turnarounds (for now), which is becoming more and more important to me.

The first feedback for the seller says "scam artist". I hope someone is already making CSG slabs

Actually that modern card doesn’t look too bad in that slab; a vintage would look terrible.

Default CSG vs HGA

I like the look of both CSG and HGA. I think the newer stuff looks great in both but I like how HGA color coordinates their labels.

Yep, this is exactly the kind of card their holder was designed for. Not a lot of thought to vintage, but hopefully that can change if they are willing to adapt.

I like the look of the CSG, and the HGA is great too. I sent my order in last week. I think they will stay on their time frames. The HGA gaurentee's their
return times. My hope is that this will pressure the other companies to at least
be looking over their shoulders.

I think the flip will look even bigger with a t206 or smaller card. If they even grade them.

There’s no doubt that flip is bigger than a t206. Half of that text could be smaller or omitted entirely. TBH, I never understood why so much info was necessary to begin with. To start, the player name and card # are on the friggin card....

That Green Mosaic actually looks pretty chic with the flip above. Fortunate to hit the ground running with a matching color combo like that.

Agree with everyone else, flip is simply stupidly large.

And while the subgrades are cool, they aren't free. I want to say it cost $10 extra if you want subgrades on your card.

I buy a lot of non-sport CGC cards, they bring about $ .60 on the dollar of PSA values. It has allowed my 7 year old to fill some holes in his sets for a lot cheaper than PSA, and gives a little peace of mind the card is potentially not counterfeit. Their grading is no better or worse than anybody else PSA or Beckett, the only thing I have found is non sports cards in their holders are across the board cheaper. As I remember a lot of people made a lot of money in this hobby buying SGC cards in the past and re-submitting to PSA because they had the same issue with resale prices. Maybe it's not the worst thing in the world that it is going to cost $ 50- $ 100 to have a card graded by PSA going forward, it's going to eliminate re-subbing cards over and over again to get a higher grade.

Either way, I think CGC has a place in this hobby, they offer an encapsulation service, and with PSA's price increases their prices are probably in line with the product you are getting. I just don't see a lot of high dollar cards going into their holders until they can prove they add value to the card, and so for at least in non-sports cards they have not shown they do. My son is putting together a large sub to go to CGC of Pokemon cards, they are not cards he has a desire to sell, but are basically the key cards in sets, and he wants graded cards. When he has cards that he wants to sell we bite the bullet, pay the premium and send to PSA or Beckett, because they yield a better ROI on the grading costs. I would guess that The BB cards I submit to them will be the same way, not cards that will be sold, but key cards that I just want in a holder for my PC, much as SGC graded cards in my collection.

The bidding on this card is at $500 with 5 days left.
The resent sales for the same card with a PSA 10 grade were $400-$485.

With SGC already in the market and an almost unlimited number of potential acronyms out there, they have to pick CSG? Seriously? It’s only a typo away!

I, for one, will not be buying any of these slabbed cards. Scary sh*t. Watch how easily this guy cracks open CGC slabs at about the 8:00 mark.

You're absolutely right, that was way too easy. If the holders are the same for baseball cards scammers will have a field day, no doubt.

That is unbelievable! How in the world can a new company not make sure this can't happen? That's one of the reasons why I like BGS.

I did the exact same thing with an SGC 7 Jerry Rice card. See images below. You can barely tell the slab was opened. I could have easily put a lower graded card in there and most people would never notice.

After watching that video I decided to see how hard it would be to open a GMA slab. I had never really looked at the slab before. It is lapped one side over the other. Similar to the old GAI slabs. Only way to get the card out is to break the slab. I liked that. Frank

That was not the "finished product" for CSG. There is a nearly identical video of Scott A. breaking open PSA cases by hand, with relative ease. Both CSG and PSA have subsequently made it far tougher to open the slabs without breaking them.

That is good to hear. Slabs have to at least be difficult to get into.

I plan on sending 20 cards to CSG by next week. I'll send one that I plan on trying to crack open and report how I did. I'm really hoping the CSG and HGA are the real deal. I love BGS and PSA but welcome some competition (we all should).

Dan - I would love to see the results of your crack test. I would love to hear how easy (or not) it is from someone I trust. No offense to others on this forum or for those who have heard from the owner or those who anonymously responded on YouTube. A true test from a rookie card collecting Net54 legend would be welcomed by all, well, at least by me!

Looks like this seller from Florida has a bunch of CSG graded cards up for auction now.

Looks like all super-modern stuff, so no idea how it would compare price-wise to the other TPG's.

Dan, now that is clear that you have a personal issue with SGC, can you share what exactly that is? Do you believe HGA and CSG will have the same resale value of PSA?
