Question on George Brett Postcards
Hoping someone here can help me out with these two postcards.
Any info on the one on the left? It kind of has the look of a JD McCarthy postcard but no mark and the back is completely blank. I don’t have it on my checklist anywhere and no clue what it is or the year. The second one is the team issue from (I believe) 1984, 1985, and 1986. Most of these team issues had the same image for multiple years. Anyone know a way to tell the years apart? Or is there legitimately no difference in those years and I should stop trying to collect individual years for those? Any ideas are appreciated. |

The second card is a 1984 team issued postcard
the first one I have, but don't think its a McCarthy and I am not sure its that old either. Might be a "made for ebay" card. I know its a smaller version of a photo. Just don't know |

Thanks
Thanks for the follow up. I have the same sense as you on the first one being a more modern production. Can’t remember if I got it from eBay or not but didn’t pay much. It definitely is not a JDM but I think made to look like it.
Do you know on the ‘84 team issue if there’s a way to tell the years apart? I believe the ‘85 and ‘86 are the exact same image and all blank backed. Not sure if I should be trying to find three cards there or just one to represent the three years. Same problem with other years in the team issues. |

George brett postcards
This is just my opinion. For the purpose of collecting I would use
the one year. You might go to PSA registry master set and see what they use for the years of the different postcards. I have done some study on this and here is what I know. Most "postcards" were used by teams for various purposes. Many were provided to newspapers or giveaway at the park and were probably used over a period of time. For the purpose of collecting they are called postcards. With the Brett's there is one year (don't recall which right now) where his auto is stamped on some. I think those were given to members of the Brett fan club but don't really have any varification. The royals didn't really keep track of any of that at that time. Hope this helps |

Another One?
This one has sold on eBay a couple of times now. Looks exactly like a team issue. But not on any checklist I can find. Wondering if it’s a more recent creation. I have this one in hand. It seems to be on similar stock and the same size as other team issues.
