Not that I don't find some of these discussions fascinating, but I'd like to start a thread and ask anyone (AND I MEAN ANYONE) if they would be kind enough to post scans of their collections.

Not just individual cards (although that is certainly welcome and I'd be particularly interested to see some scans from recent major auction winners--I'm always curious where the great stuff in the various catalogs ends up--go ahead and crow, boast, whatever!), but their memorabilia, displays, framed items, heck even organizational and archiving systems.

Basically I would like to ask anyone who is willing to take the board into their collecting world and give us a tour.

Thanks in advance.

Kieth has the one piece I would give up my Thorpe card for, that wonderful A&G advertising poster for the American Indian Chiefs set.

Not baseball, but I really like the artwork and colors. They are from the Dockman Wild West Gum set. And no one wants to see my Oakes card again

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home I would be arrested, so I go to baseball games and fit right in.

I understand that some folks on the board have been bothered a bit because Julie often puts up pictures when she posts, but do we have to respond with so much venom? I'm not a big fan of pictures clogging up threads either, but it's nothing to get worked up about. Please, let's just get back to the cards.

I hope the following is ok for show and tell -

"You can train a donkey to run in the Preakness but don't expect him to win" - Greg Booker, former pitching coach of the San Diego Padres, refering to the aces on the staff. Quote was on the day he was fired because the pitching staff really stunk it up.

How about we stop the lovefest everytime theres a problem.

Julie doesnt need people to defend her,she spends alot of time on the board and she can speak for herself,so if she wants to defend herself let her,and if people want to voice problems with the board let them!

Obviously if alot of people have problems with her then its not a personal thing and i think people are finally getting tired of it and speaking their mind. Its good to hear what everyone(who's willing to speak) thinks.

Because i had problems in the past with her everyones coming to me with their problems with her and im getting tired of it,they need to let their feelings be known otherwise youll never get what you want.

I really think Pete(i think) had the best idea, and its not being rude.Julie should have her own thread where she posts her own scans.People dont want to see them they dont have to look or more importantly respond which i think would stop this problem.

She likes showing her scans, she will have a place for scans, you dont like seeing her scans over and over you dont have to look.Seems simple to me

Okay, maybe some people didn't read the thread subject header.

I don't care who you are or what sports collectibles-related scans you would like to post--I, would like to see them. Julie is more than welcome to do so (in fact invited to do so), as is anyone else. I get a kick out of it--sue me. I find it interesting to view someone's collection to give me an idea of other's collecting habits and passions. If you don't feel the same, feel free to ignore this thread.

I repeat, please ignore this thread.

I don't want to read anymore personal attacks in either direction.

If you want to post personal attacks please do so elsewhere.

Thanks.

"Basically I would like to ask anyone who is willing to take the board into their collecting world and give us a tour. Thanks in advance."

Aaron, you are welcome. One of the things I like about this forum is getting a chance to see cards I've never seen before, and others I've never even heard of. It's fun to learn what other collectors collect, and why they collect it.

I've posted three pics here, along with links to my new (July 25) collector sites. Some of you have already been to the sites.

For me, my homepage at .mac.com made it easy to put together 8 pages of 19th century items and 21 pages of pre WW II items, from Asa Brainard to Johnny Mize. It seemed to me that this was the easiest way to share the collection with other like-minded souls. I've grouped items in a variety of ways, including complete sets, categories (sepias, cabinets), backs, themes (Black Sox), etc. A few non-card items are thrown in for good measure.

When you reach the sites you will see links for the following pages:

| 19th Century Miscellany | 19th Century Sepia | 19th Century Cabinet Cards | Kimball's & Goodwin's Champions | Allen & Ginter | 1889 N526 | 1895 N300 Mayo Cut Plug Tobacco | More 19th Century Tobacco

20th Century Cabinets | 20th Century Tobacco | Candy & Gum, etc. | 1910 E90-2 | 1909 E95 Phildelphia Caramel | 1909-1910 E97 Briggs | 1910 E96 Philadelphia Caramel | 1910 E103 | 1910 Tip-Top Bread Pirates | 1910 T209 Contentnea (Color) | 1911-1914 D304 Brunner's Bread | 1911 D359 Rochester Baking | 1913 T200 Team Cards | 1916 Tango Eggs | 1919 Black Sox + Two | 1933 R300 | 1933 Delong Gum | 1936 R312 | Fronts & Backs | More Favorites

Among the items is a page containing all 15 players in the N526 set. I would be curious to know if anyone else has all 15, or knows anyone who does. Most normal folks would pick up one as a type piece and call it a day. The N526 page is located at: http://homepage.mac.com/thurber51/19th_Century/PhotoAlbum46.html

The 19th Century page is located at: http://homepage.mac.com/thurber51/19th_Century/Personal50.html

The 20th Century page is located at:
http://homepage.mac.com/thurber51/Personal38.html

Thanks for taking a look.

Bruce

Many of you just need to keep your $#*$%#% fingers away from the keyboard. A thread called show and tell, and you pi$$ and moan that someone is posting scans? Skip the Bleepin thread, pinheads. I for one want to see the pics, even if I've seen them before, and I don't want to read your incessant tripe that something isn't to your liking. Flippin thread police, you act like she came over and crapped on your yard. Get over it, already, and post pics.

For those of you in a more poetic mood, here's the first separate edition printing of Casey at the Bat (reprinted in 1977 in a nice facsimilie edition, so don't get fooled by that one)

I hope I'm not perpetuating a lovefest or anything, but if there's one really great thing about this board, especially compared to its first months, is that so many active members are knowledgable about non-card baseball memorabilia. I know this is the vintage CARD forum and all, but it's always the highlight of my day (okay, some of my days are kinda lame) to see something like that uncut actress sheet, or Max's books. Only downside is that I want to collect all that, too! I suspect I'm not alone...

Ted Williams' early 1940s chapstick with balm inside. Owned and used by Ted Williams while a player.

Are you sure about Ted William's chapstick cuz it sure looks like the chapstick my old neighbor used to use on her coldsores.

If we're getting into diversity....here is one of the earliest images of football players. Considering that it's a tintype, the type of backdrop and that they are not wearing knickers it would place this image circa 1870. Most likely college boys as that is where American football is traced.

Well, now that we have Ted Williams' chapstick, we just need someone to scan in Ty Cobb's teeth and we are good to go!

Can there be a more diverse thread, which includes among other things Ted Williams' chapstick? Actually a kind of interesting thread for a little change of pace. As for the chapstick, if the quarter in the photograph is included with it, then the lot's value is 25 cents :)

An original photo of a young Musial, a framed lithograph of a colorized Cap Anson OJ cabinet, and a Koesters bread card featuring a portly Jesse Burkett carrying a suitcase?

Considering I own or owned Nancy Reagan's Chalkboard, Weeb Ewbank's used beer coaster collection, Ken Hubbs' high school chemistry homework and Helena Christensen's leather coat, I could have made the thread more diverse.

And as there was a comment about pricing about the chapstick, the following is a price guide (relative) to the 'game used' items. Top is most expensive, bottom is least.

Helena Christensen's leather jacket
Ken Hubbs' homework
Nancy Reagan's chalkboard
Ted Williams' chapstick
Weeb Ewebank's beer coasters

One of the items in my collection that I enjoy the most is a set of original team scorebooks of the Pittsburgh Pirates. There are three and they all measure roughly 9"x11". The first covers the 1895 season and part of the 1896 season. The second covers the 1908 season and the final one covers the 1913 season and most of 1914. All of the home games are scored in detail since the home team was responsible for the scorebook but some of the road games are scored as well. Some "challenge" games are included as well which weren't part of the season schedule. One of them is a great post season series against Cleveland with Joe Jackson. Another is against Detroit. These scorebooks are particularly enjoyable as they include many of the players from the T-card sets as well as Mayo's and even OJ's. I also have a reproduction panoramic photo from one of the games from 1908 against Chicago. The photo is dated. You can actually tell the moment this photo was taken by looking at the scorebook. At the time of the photo the players have just completed an inning and are leaving the field. Stranded runners at second and third are leaving their bases. There is only one occurrence of this situation in the game. It's neat to think that this scorebook was up in the scorers booth when this photo was taken. [I guess I've got too much time on my hands, huh].

Actually, the panoramic is a set of three photos, taken left to right and combined later by the photographer. In the left portion of the photo you see the outfielder in the ready position. In the middle of the photo you see the players heading towards their dugouts at the end of the inning. At the right of the photo you'll notice no outfielder since they were all in the dugout by the time the photographer reset his camera and photographed this portion of the field.

The truely amazing thing about the panoramic shots is the city skylines. They talk about pollution today, but jeez, the amout of smoke you see coming from the smokestacks is just incredible. And every city seems to be in a haze.
