Default My collection and the Board members

I have to say that I've been on this board for about three months. At first I just got extremely jealous of everyone's rare cards and such great condition. I was a little bit discouraged.

Now I'm starting to accept that I'm damn proud of my t206 collection that I've basically strung together in about 3 years. I'm up to 113 cards on a limited income.

I'd like to thank a lot of the board members here as they've given out some great deals and far better than you'll see on eBay.

I'm on this site EVERY day. It's kind of my thing throughout the day at work I just search and often am chatting with one of the members. I'd have way too long of a list to list off names. There has been some extremely helpful people on this board.

I'm starting to no longer feel discouraged about my (mostly) low grade set. And just wanted to extend my thanks to those who have given me deals, pointed me in the right direction or basically just everyone as you've kept me quite busy these past few months. I'm very happy and proud to be a member of this board. I picked up a Rube Portrait last night. It's not in the greatest shape but it's mine ! I now have both of his cards. I've got both Griffiths. Two out of the four McGraws, and two out of the three Willis cards. I've got 21 out of the 76 HOF cards !

I'm constantly learning new things and people are constantly pointing me towards auctions I never knew about, sharing their education. For example I had no idea why Elberfield (Washington), Kleinow (catching, Boston), Brown(e) (Washington), etc were so high then I was pointed out that there are some "toughies" that I never knew about. I actually own the Smith (Chicago and Boston) which I never thought I would and another member has since sent it to PSA to be graded for me. He and I have talked quite a bit and I really enjoy and appreciate everything everyone has done.

I often share this wisdom that is being passed on to me with my father. And he has since started collecting (on a bit lower level than me) t206 again. I can only hope that one day I can pry his Titus PSA 2 off of him. Which he said he got before his priced inflated. He claimed that he spent nowhere near $100 maybe about $50-60 for it.

You guys are truly AWESOME !!!

Sounds like you are having fun Josh. As you have read, and I am sure understand, this hobby is the proverbial marathon and not a sprint. Other than that, keep having fun. That is what it's all about.

Hey Josh, thanks for sharing! I too, being mostly a hockey guy more interested in memorabilia than cards, am amazed at the passion and knowledge of board members regarding prewar baseball. And as Leon stated, if you're having fun, that's what its all about!
Enjoy your day collecting!

Regards,
Brent

Josh. I went through the same emotions about prewar, wishing I had bought much more much earlier. Now that I have pretty close to the collection I want I realize that I appreciate the process much more than anything. Making your database and slowly building your set is the best part of the hobby along with sharing it here.

Post some pics and brag on your set - there are lots of us on here who collect low grade and enjoy the well-loved cards! I started by buying Poor and Authentic T206's (only HOFers), and have no upgraded many to 2, 3, or even 4 grades, but still have several 1's with great eye appeal.

This site is quite a learning experience . Lots of people with solid knowledge and quality collections that'd still amaze me from time to time even though I've been around collecting most of my life . By the way Leon I have a T205 Bris Lord I'll trade you for that old ugly Darby Chocolates card any time . Just kidding .

Default welp here's some of my photo's from a really old iPhone

Well I guess on the plus note I'm only 28 so I have a whole lifetime to collect t206. I think eventually I'll do t202 but know nothing about it, and t205. I've re-watched Ken Burns video documentary way too many time so I'm trapped in the deadball era.

I usually try to scan and upload every card I buy and save them on this site. That way I have them backed up or they can be accessed wherever I am. I separate them in different albums PSA or SGC are the only cards I buy.

Is it wrong that I have Engle next to Snodgrass ??? Merkle is right next to Engle someday when I get an evers and the other Merkle they'll be paired right next to each other as well.

I also intend on making my own website and asking for donations whenever it is that I finally am satisfied with my t206 checklist. Net54 members will get it for free NO MATTER WHAT! It's just the rest of the inter-webs who can donate to get a copy.

Probably my main and most discouraging goal is to get a Cobb and then to get all 3 others.

I also took my collection for granted until I came here and saw some struggling to accomplish what I had accomplished. It is easy to see the glass as half empty.

Awesome collection and display! I see you mentioned T202. Based on your interest in the dead ball era and Ken Burns' documentary series (I've easily watched it 10-15 times through since it came out), I think you'll get hooked once you start T202. I know I did... great combination of portraits, player combos, written info on each card, with many having great, if not iconic photos. I'd know that Cobb Steals Third pic from watching "Baseball", so was so happy when I finally got the Cobb/Jennings T202. Anyway, just keep enjoying it however you go about it.

You're doing great. The nice thing about this hobby is that it can be very flexible. I collect on a budget too so I have to prioritize too. That used to bum me out but now I find it a challenge to seek out the cards in budget. One way I stay on budget is collect a player who interests me and whose cards can serve as a type collection. I do that with Lefty O'Doul. He's in most every set of the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Josh,
Your display is unbelievable. Wow! What a great collection. I started up on the Red Sox and White Sox team sets a little over five years ago. Down to just the Gandil for the White Sox and Speaker, Spencer and Kleinow for the Red Sox. I'm just grabbing cheap and beat up when I can get them, with some cards missing a few pieces. Along the way, I would pick up a few lots to acquire a Sox player. Well, those lots have turned into a little bit of a bundle. It has been a blast. This is a beautiful set and so much fun to collect and read about. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks dude! I'm only 3 cards away from finishing off the White Sox. They'll be my only completed team. And not really close with any others lol. Just need Isbell, Fiene (fielding), and Tannehill (L. Tannehill) !!!

Kleinow will be tough. Though I blew it big time recently one of his went for only $36. Arrrggghhhh lol.

We should really have a "collecting on a budget" thread for under $100 pick-ups. I also collect on a budget and what I don't have in value, I try to make up for it in weird

This is a good idea. Someone should start it. I get of stuff that I like but don't post on the main thread because I figure it would just be clutter to a lot of people.

Yeah, but there sure aren't many Darby's Chocolates around in any condition, let alone one of the greatest second basemen of all time--treasure any one of these you can lay your hands on!
