Default GOLDIN psa jackie robinson leaf psa 7

so after goldin waqs informed the card is missing a chunk of paper on the reverse...they failed to acknowledge it the description...instead they gave it to psa to reholder in a new holder and psa didnt change the grade seems a little strange that the new owner of psa and goldin being the same person refused to downgrade the card
the card is now at 327k +bp
the previous high was 77k

My PSA 4 has the same centering as that PSA 7! The corners on the PSA 7 are a bit better than mine, but hey, mine has a much better-looking back!

This PSA 7 not only has some paper missing on the back, but there appears to be a stain on the top-right area as well!

My 6.5 has similar centering, just left to right instead of top to bottom, better corners and no back damage. If that card is almost 400k, what is mine?

It may depend a lot on the venue.

Same Goldin that used to shill on late night TV with Don West? Why is anybody surprised at this behavior, once a grifter always a grifter...

From the description:
Please Note: Due to the value and importance of the historically formidable piece, this card was recently reviewed by PSA and placed in a new holder equipped with the industry's most modern security protections.

That sounds weird for some reason...what was wrong with old slab?

How about the PSA 8 1952 Topps Mantle with the Horrible Stain Right Below the Ey in his name box?

Perfect example of people buying a slab not a card, sad.

I don't know. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but we paid a lot less for our house (and I think we have a really nice house), then what people are paying for some of these cards.

We paid a pretty penny to have a full inspection done, hire an attorney to look for liens and put together the proper paperwork, have the water tested and hired a surveyor to double check the boundary lines.........so we knew we were getting exactly what we paid for.

I would think somebody bidding 1/2 million+ bucks on a card could be bothered to enlarge the pictures (or send a request to see bigger pictures) to see exactly what they're getting, regardless of what the number says on the slab.

When is a stain a discoloration? When it's on my card.

Dave, the problem here is this. With all the new un-educated money flowing in and the new buyer groups comes inexperience. They may have looked at the back and seen the paper loss as its very evident but they might not even understand the consequences of that loss. To them it might just be a minor blemish or it might mean nothing to them. As in, "we have so much money we just want this card. It's slabbed so it must be correct!"

Scary thoughts for sure but I'll bet if you quizzed all this new money they could not run off the grade scale like most of us could: Poor, Fair, Good, VG, VG-EX, EX EX/MT..... you get the picture.......all they see is a number and cards that have been setting records.

These groups and buyers are as far away from "Buy the Card not the holder" than you can get. Their new motto appears to be "Buy the Holder......not the card" and thier piles of cash makes up for the mistakes they make along the way!

Crazy world indeed!

Peace, Mike

These ““ groups? Who are these groups? I feel like what’s happening in the hobby is a kin to what’s happening in the whole country... things are happening… One side says it’s because of this, the other side says it’s because of that… But ultimately no one really knows?

Default They exist.....

Pete,

Collectible buying groups much like Art Buying groups have been discussed on here recently.

Here are some active groups:
https://collectable.com/

https://rallyrd.com/

You really should read this article on Bloomberg:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...but-should-you

Another good read from the "Atlantic" :
https://theathletic.com/2056025/2020...-with-just-25/

"These" groups exist in force and probably have a lot less experience and knowledge than we do! Just a ton more in disposable income!

Peace, Mike
