Default USA Topps Test Hockey Cards

First of all, I'm very surprised that Leon gave us puckheads our own section! Hats off to you, sir!

Now there are so many questions surrounding these USA Topps Test hockey cards, such as which year they were issued, where they were issued and who issued them. However, today, I want to add something else to the list, and that is why are these cards always found in such nice condition?

Joe Orlando posted this on his Twitter account recently:

That's right - five beauties! And all of them went to PSA.

Meanwhile, the ones issued in Canada are usually found in horrible shape! They have creases, corner wear, paper-loss, etc. Yuck! Good luck trying to find an Orr rookie in EX+ shape!

Your thoughts?

I have to say I've also noticed over the years that the "Test" Orr's on average seem to be in way better condition on average. I have no theory or anything on it, but it is a great observation that I concur with.

The one I saw years ago was also really nice. I don't recall it having the white edge at the right.

Sadly, it's on the "one that got away" file... The dealer i hung out at had a binder of stuff that was only sort of for sale. Hardly ever showed it.
I got a look after asking, and the test Orr was there. But he wanted $100! at the time so far above what any hockey card would have been. (Goudey Ruths were 100-150 for fairly nice ones, and the 52 Mantle had barely gone above 1000 for a very nice one. )

I probably bought some packs and a few other cards that aren't worth much instead
