Default Net54 "Buy One Give One Free" Contest -Game Back On

Most (okay all) of my threads die quickly, I'm really not sure why, perhaps it's my accent or the fact that I slept through twelve grade English class, but I think I finally have a winner . As Macho Man would say......Ohhhhhh Yeah!

Annual B.O.G.O.F. Net54 Contest

Here are the strict rules to the newly commissioned annual Net54 December "Buy One Give One Free" contest.

Rule #1. Prewar card is offered by thread starter (me!). Any prewar card or anything close to a card will do!

Rule #2. Prewar card is claimed by another Net54 member (you!). In the event that multiple people claim the same card, the first one to claim the card in this thread is declared the new owner.

Rule #3. Offered card is mailed for free with no strings attached to the claimer, but only when the claimer offers another prewar card for free in this thread.

Rule #4. Repeat steps 1 2 & 3 until December 31th 11:59 p.m. Pacific time or until you grow tired of playing. You can play multiple times or even less.

NET54 disclaimer: Net54 or anyone associated with Net54 is not responsible for any lost cards or unseen disagreements. Oh, and forgive me, if this has been done before, but I'm way too lazy to use the search function; plus, what would I search for anyway?

Okay, lets start the contest.

Hear Yea, Hear Yea! I have a 1934 R310 BUTTERFINGER Charley Gehringer to offer (*). Two of the corners are clipped, but otherwise a nice card with no creases. Comes with the fancy holder as show in the pic. Anybody want to play and claim this card? It really needs a new home but don't forget to read step 3.

* I also have a 1914 B18 Blankets Coveleski which can be substituted for the Gehringer.

Lovely Day...

Default Squelching ain't right in times like these

No need to squelch Iggy...squelching is for squealing squid squishers. If no one has claimed one of the above items this evening (I just don't collect bigger card-like structures), I will post a smaller size card to get this thing rolling. Sometimes a thing just needs to fester for a while before people jump on the ooze train.

Default Don't give up Iggy!

I'm with Brian on this... while neither of those cards interest me, I'm more than willing to participate. I've got a T205 common that I picked up in a lot recently that I'll post on this thread tonight.

Well I don't know if this deal is a go, or not...

I'd like the Coveleski B18. If it is available, post here to let me know, and email me at fwakefield1@comcast.net and I'll get an address to you.

Then, I'll offer this W572 of Joe Bush... 1923.

Frank.

Default I am with ya'll

I am with you guys. I was definitely going to play but since I post so often I was just giving it some time. Looked like a fun game. Hopefully Iggy will un-squelch it. I do know how it is to not get responses but that is just the way the board is sometimes. Many members only like the negative stuff or like to say their little one-liners while being jerks. The rest of us like to have fun. C'mon Iggy.....

Great post-up move, I see you read the fine print. Thus, we now have two cards in play (the W572 Bush and the R313 Fine Pen Al Simmons).

Lovely Day...

Do you guys hear the crickets chirping every time I open this thread, or is it just me???

deadasdoornail.jpg

I'm not giving up on you guys. You are not squelchers! I just know you' re not! There's no place like home.........there's no place like home! Whoops, sorry about that, I lost my train of thought. Okay, I will try again, luckily I will be on vacation in a couple of days and this will all be in the rear view. I will claim the Fine Pen Al Simmons and the W572 Bullet Joe Bush cards. Here are the two new cards looking for a new home (I'm really really really resisting offering T206's, so don't make me go there).

I have this W517 which I have been trying to sell on eBay for the past month @$15 with no takers.........this card will fit right into this thread .

W517 Kelly.jpg

I have this T201 Stovall / Turner which is also looking for a new home. Probably worth $15 to $20 on a good day in a straight auction. It looks real nice from the front when opened , but when you close the card, the bottom left corner and the bottom creases really stand-out. I would suggest you display the card in open-mode. Okay, have at them (ha, ha ha, that is funny....excuse me while I wipe my eyes). Carry on!

picture99 2155.jpgpicture99 2157.jpg

Lovely Day...

My secret solemn oath: if this thread continues to squelch, I will keep reviving it until New Years day, even if it means swapping cards with both myself and I. There, I said it!

The George Kelly is neat. But I don't have anything to offer that would inspire an equivalent follow-up trade.

Default T206 available

Ok, I guess I am forced to T206exy it up to get some action (as we all know, net54 would cease to function if T206's were banned from the site). I am actually feeling a little guilty...I have two cards coming my way, basically for free since no one seems to care for the two cards I have already posted. So, go for it...make this a T206-centric thread.

Brian, I'll claim the W514 Bancroft. Thank you, sir.

And I'll get something scanned and offered here in a few minutes...

And here they are... I'll put these two up as a pair, a T213 Coupon card of Ed Lennox, and a 1933 Goudey of George Connally. These two go as a pair, claim both or neither. And if you really don't want one or the other, post it back up here once you get it. I'm all about mailing Monday, if you claim by Sunday night... you'll have the cards for Christmas.

Default Sunny Jim, hammered

I'll take Rick Ferrell, Brian, thanks.

One wonders what some of these cards have been through,
and how they have survived.

Here's Sunny Jim Bottomley from the Great Depression, appropriately enough.

Good karma, Iggy,

Doug

Am I following this right, are there two threads of this game going now?

The t205Becker and the t206manning in one that still needs to be claimed?

and the other the 33 Goudey Bottomley that needs to be claimed?

Make that three cards...there is also an E91-C posted much earlier that is up for grabs (seems the poor neglected soul has been shuffled aside like yesterday's confetti).

I would like to take the bottomley.

I would like to offer up another 33 Goudey. Not a hof like Bottomley, but a much better condition with no creases/wrinkles and no paperloss. Just rounded corners.

Default I'll take two Goudeys--

Aside from the Hall-of-Famers, I don't really collect the Goudeys.
But it's always good to have a couple to trade, classics that they are.
Who knows, maybe I'll start collecting them.

So I'll take Connally and Willie Kamm.

Now being offered: a strip card [W516-2-2?] of Clyde Milan, cut to the borders, a very slight crease in the upper right-hand border, and a beat E90 of Heitmuller.

There are now five cards in all being offered, I believe:
T205 Becker, T206 Manning, and E91-C McBride, in addition to these two new ones.

A good New Year to all, and
Long live Iggy-man!

Doug

Default "or until you get tired of playing it."

I wasn't aware of Rule 4, Andy, so you have a point.

On the other hand, I'm not tired of playing the game.
But maybe I'm being too equivocal, mincing words with that interpretation [It could well be contrary to Iggy's intention].
Anyway, whatever you decide is fine with me.

Doug, I posted 2 cards in post #22. Brian claimed both of them in post #23, and I've already mailed him both some time ago. I'm sure he has them by now. They were a 'bundle', I offered 2 cards 'cause I felt I got a good deal on the one I claimed... Sorry. Frank.

Thanks Frank I received the Connally and T213-2 card. I really just wanted the T213-2, so, Doug, the Connally is yours. Just email me your shipping address and I will send it your way.

Default Can we keep on playing?

Thanks, Brian, for the Connally; that was generous of you.
Shall we keep on playing?
Is there any interest?
[I have some lower-grade T205's and 206's, Goudey Hall of Famers, too, that I'll be willing to trade for some card that catches my fancy].
I'll leave my two offerings out there if you want to keep on playing.

What say, Iggyman: Did it expire with 2011? Or, Shall the game be renewed?

Doug

I don't know how I missed this one! I will play. Here is my offer/buy in.

I probably bought this one from Iggyman on ebay a while back. It no longer fits what I am trying to do with my T206 collection.

I guess cash is king. So, is this game over? I know my Gasper is not pretty, but has great color!

Iggyman, I thought it was a good idea, but 40 posts vs. 2,163 views! I am disappointed in the members on this one. Good idea, little love!

This thread is medically D.O.A. Perhaps it would have blossomed, if from the beginning I would have enticed the members with better cards, but with the benefit of hindsight, I'm not sure that would have worked either. It started out as a great idea, but what do I know...........after all, in the early 80's I actually thought the latest Starship album was worth buying, and to this day, feel somewhat responsible for making "we built this city" a number one hit .

Lovely day...

This game has been played before...and the problem lies in people taking nicer/more valuable cards and replacing them with crap...that nobody wants...which inevitably happens. Just my opinion!

Maybe setting a dollar amount for a card to be worth would help?

We built this city is an ok song...but I wouldn't buy the album for it!

Default Here's a recap (I think)

B18 Coveleski -> W572 Bush -> W517 Kelly -> W514 Bancroft -> [T213 Lennox + 33 Goudey Connally] -> Ferrell -> 33 Goodey Bottomley -> 33 Goodey Kamm -> W516-2-2 Milan

33 Goudey Connally (from above) -> E90 Heitmuller

R310 Gehringer -> R313 Simmons -> T201 Stovall/Turner -> E91-C McBride

T206 Arndt -> [T206 Becker + T206 Manning]

T206 Gasper

So, if I have it right, there are currently five "lots" available:
W516-2-2 Milan
E90 Heitmuller
E91-C McBride
T205 Becker and T206 Manning
T206 Gasper

Default Iggy-game back on?--Snider given away to member who had collection stolen--

I suggest we make this an annual game, ending each New Year.

Net54 has been like finding Mecca for me, with so many good people teaching me to be better.

In this thread, in particular, thanks to:
Frank, for his good-will,
Erick and Brian, for their generosity, and
Peter, for his cynical but healthy dose of reality
[with which I'll only 99% agree, being a hard-nosed romantic, myself].

I'm going to offer this '52 Topps Snider as a replacement for my crappy Heitmuller and Milan [which together were of equal value, I believed, to what I thought I was getting, but which, as I look at them now, don't look very desirable]. I know this Snider is desirable as I've had a few inquiries about it. Frankly, I offer it as some tribute to Iggy's past generosity, and hopefully to renew the game.

Doug
