Default Ty Cobb Boxing Manager and Matchmaker??

Hi Gang:

Anyone ever hear that Ty Cobb was a Boxing Manager and Matchmaker?

This Newspaper from my hometown of Penns Grove, NJ dated 1918 has him listed as such. See:

Default Ty Cobb

Apparently there were 5 different guys who fought under the name Ty Cobb back in the day..... including a deceptive fight billed as Ty Cobb VS Babe Ruth.... these guys were the forerunners of the ebay scammers of today!

This Ty Cobb is NOT a boxer. Rather a Manager and a Matchmaker

In 1918, Friday was on April 12th, not the 11th.

Sorry, there was a handwritten date at the top that said 1918. Guess someone lost track of time somewhere in the last 103 years!

Looks like April 11th in 1919 was a Friday.

Ty Cobb "Young Ty Cobb", Samuel Kolb was a Philly boxer and ran in the same circles as many of the names on that poster. He also appears to have slowed his actual boxing schedule down during that time period before picking it up again for a little bit in the early 1920's. Likely to set up his match with the up and coming "Babe Ruth", before fading back into obscurity.

99% that is who that poster is referring to.

...and for good measure.

Babe Ruth did have some boxing connection. Ruth and Gehrig trained with boxing trainer Artie McGovern in the offseason. Ruth started after his awful 1925 season (and credited McGovern for getting him back into shape) and Gehrig was always into fitness and went to McGovern's too. I offer as proof of the latter:

McGovern signed this one:

Here's a fun article on Ruth's boxing training:
