Default How do these n172's price

Posted By: pete

Ok, I hope this works...I have 2 SGC 20/1.5 n172 of John McCarthy and Fred Pfeffer (2 player pose) the back of the McCarthy has some initials on it in pen, no other damage...the back of the Pfeffer has 2 glue spots and otherwise is a great and sharp looking card...did SGC "jack" me on the grades and what are they worth ?

The McCarthy looks to be a 20 all right, but the Pfeffer should be at least a 30, maybe a 40. I guess the back damage on the Pfeffer might drop it to a 30 but still a very nice card and much, much better than a 20.

Well that back on the Pfeffer explains the grade. I still think it could/should be a 30 though. The McCarthy grade is spot on, although the fantastic photo adds alot to its appeal. Nice cards.

A GAI4 Pfeffer sold on eBay last night for $204. The image was crisp, back clean, corners rounded.

I consider that a favorable price for the buyer.

Your Pfeffer, (if the scan isn't misleading), has a trapezoidal cut with the image cocked on the card, in addition to the back damage. If I was the seller, I would think that my card could get >$125 in the SGC1.5 holder. Because the cut and cocking and residue really ain't that bad. imho.

The McCarthy, although possessing great eye appeal, may have difficulty achieving $100. imho.

Do you want to see an injustice:

Compare the following Getzein and Duryea cards -

Note that the Duryea has scrap book remnant left on it and the Getzein has what amounts to a minimal scrape of the back on it (obvous adhesive residue removal):

Yes Judge, that was the point I intended to make: Do not crack out the Pfeffer. Its authenticity is proven by the holder. And although it is not a vg/ex, it should still get $125/$200 x 100 = % of GAI4 value (or better).

Gee, I wonder if the above clarified anything at all.
