Default Photo of Mathewson: origin

I posted on the other forum about Mack's 1908 book How to Play Baseball (the post encouraged the usual dialogue between Barry and me)

The book has a number of unique photos (unique to me, at least). This one of Mathewson I hadn't seen before, and it doesn't seem (again, to me) to look a whole lot like him. Perhaps it's just the cheap type 4 pulpy newsprint...

Default me either...

It doesn't look like him to me either. I am not sure what his brother looked like but could it be him instead?

Funny, but it looks like Matty to me, although I agree not the best photo of him. He's wearing a World's Champion uniform so picture is ca. 1905.

Here's Henry in 1905-06. Hard to tell whether he's wearing his "World Champions" Jersey. I do know that Christy appears in the World Champions set (Ullman) wearing a "N.Y." Jersey while some of the others appear with the World Champions jersey.

Default Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve....

To me the original photo in question looks more like Henry than Matty...but I am probably incorrect.

I think too if you compare glove styles that the Henry glove looks spot on to the one in Max's book.

They Giants wore those during the 1906 season -that was their standard uniform I believe.

Henry played in two games in 1906 pitching a total of 7 innings. He pitched one inning in 1907 and was gone. Hard to figure how he got in the 1906 Ullman set when the likes of Roger Bresnahan is not.

So Mark, is it Matty, or have I just been playing checkers too long?

I think it's Matty - but it would be easier to tell (maybe) if you could get a more paralllel scan. But, I understand that doing that can be stressful to the bindings of old books.

Default Christy Mathewson "World Champions" Jersey

Has anyone seen the jersey that Christy Mathewson wore with the "Worlds Champions" emblazoned on the front?
