Written to Yankees executive Roy Hamey. Let me start this description by saying first and foremost A Paul Waner handwritten letter is exceedingly rare ! And this one is a beauty ! In my more than 30 plus years as an autograph dealer I have heard of only one and have NEVER had the honor of offering one for sale Until now ! Waner starts by writing his home address in the upper right and dates the letter June 7th 1962, he then writes "Dear Roy, Thanks for your invitation to the anniversary of the 28th of July, I will plan to be there , Good luck to you and your team and get ready for the Dodgers again, Best regards PAUL WANER" One of the greatest hitters in the history of the National League he retired with a lifetime total of 3,152 hits. Had his best years with the Pirates 1926-1940 highlighted by winning the 1927 "Most Valuable Player" award in 1927. 102) MAX CAREY SENSATIONAL FIVE PAGE HANDWRITTEN LETTER 1914 WRITTEN TO HIS FUTURE WIFE WITH AMAZING CONTENT All are individual pages written one to a side dated April 3rd 1914 on the letterhead of "The Brady" hotel in Tulsa Oklahoma. pages measure 6 x 9 1/2 written by a then 24 year old and very much in love future Hall of Famer. Great baseball content and references to being on the road in the early days of baseball , reads in part "Went to the hotel to call for my mail and there were two letters from you, I read them while the waiter was fetching us something to eat , then after lunch I went up to see how the room looked , rotten ! whew. Kelly (a reference to team mate Joe Kelly) and I together in a little 2x4, then I quickly had my trunk brought up and changed to a heavier coat , it awful windy and the game is called off. Clarke (a reference to Hall of Fame manager Fred Clarke) told the boys if they wanted to they could go out and get some practice , about half of them went out , I didn;t thats why I am writing you at 3 o'clock didn;t sleep very good last night on that rocky road. Don't forget to pay some of your debts around the house with the money you have, if you need more I'll send some" Writes more and then concludes with "barrels of love from your hubby in Tulsa and just so many countless kisses and caresses".."Skip" , The letter is in fine condition overall except for normal letter folds. the last page has some seperation at the top fold. Max Carey led the league in stolen bases 10 times ! His career 738 stolen bases is 9th highest in major league history. Written by a then 21 year old future Hall of Famer in only his 2nd season in the major leagues Great baseball content and references to being on the road in the early days of baseball he writes in part "How could I do without your letters ! Gee ! I'm afraid I was a little sad at our last writing and I'm glad you wrote the way you did for it helped immensely but please don;t worry too much about me I'm alright again now and as we go further north I will get stronger. I never dropped a single practise but kept my work right up. Of course didn;t do so well as I am capable of under these conditions but I'm improving daily. Still I've a hard boat to row. I thought that by this writing I would be able to tell where I stood but I'm still in the dark. The next letter will probably tell. Several of the recruits here have been sent to different clubs , the first was sent to Los Angeles had to travel three days and four nights , Wow! Most all of the players would like to go out there for a year just to see the country. Red Corriden who played with the Browns last fall goes to Kansas City with O'Connor a catcher.
