Definitely strange behavior.

I don't think it's the first time Bumgarner has threatened to physically assault an ump. Probably a long history there. Madbum seems like a crybaby bully to me...especially the way he was whining about those very borderline calls leading up to that.

"I will F*&k you up!"

Please. That's the sympathetic figure in this story?

I bet he's said that before, and this ump had had enough of that, and was passive aggressively daring him to actually try and do it this time, while sticking up for his own guy behind the plate.

I disagree. This umpire crossed the line with his behavior and should be reprimanded because of it. As an umpire you have the right to check any player at any time for a foreign substance, but that wasn't the case here. In fact he never even glanced down at Madbum's hand.

This ump had intent to simply stir the pot.

I heard yesterday that the Diamondback organization has opened up a case with the league to look into this. I would have done that as well. My two cents!

Agree, that Umpire was clearly trying to cause trouble, he needs to be suspended.

Umpire Dan Bellino issues apology after ejecting Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner, taking 'full accountability' for decision.

Bellino was disciplined for the incident, according to a source familiar with the situation, though he's working the series between the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers this weekend.

Bumgarner will not face further discipline.

It's the right outcome.

Bumgarner had thrown 13 pitches when he got tossed. The way the game is today, he was probably halfway to his pitch limit anyway.
