It was just something, at the time, that was quite surprising to me as I never dreamt box bottoms would fetch such a price. Also reaffirmed I have lots to learn.

That's a great looking 2.

Congrats on the pick up.

Still wondering what this production proof might be worth.

Thank you. The OPC Gretzky rookie looks like a 7, but I care more about the card than the holder. These two just came in today. The Topps on the right is perfect. Could be in a 10 holder. The OPC on the left is a 7 all day long.

Very nice, Goldenage!
Congrats.

I've always thought SGC grades tougher, among other things, compared to PSA so I am not surprised at all to read you think that Lemieux belongs in a 10 holder.

1954 Parkhurst #26 Leo Boivin with the Lucky Premium back. Just need one more for the full set with the LP backs!

It's no secret that I don't know much about hockey or hockey history, but I really like the cards. And when I knock a card off my list I enjoy reading about the player. Like this 1955-56 Parkhurst Georges Vezina who was a member of the original class of nine inductees to the hockey hall of fame in 1945. I didn't even know there is an award for the best goalie each year in the NHL. The Vezina Trophy. I don't even need a price guide to tell me that this gum stained card was worth $16. Five more cards needed for this set.

Next two hits 1951-52 Parkhurst including #81 Max Bentley HOF 1966 and 1954-55 Parkhurst #65 Johnny Bower (with the Lucky Premium back) rookie card HOF 1976 and two time Vezina Trophy winner. I admit I had to come off my wallet a little bit for the Bower RC.

Final group of 1957-58 Parkhurst cards takes me down to needing five more for my set. #2 Ed Chadwick didn't have a great NHL career but that sure is a nice card, #3 2006 Hall of Fame member Dick Duff, then Bob Pulford who was a long time player and NHL coach HOF 1991.

Default Always liked this card when opening 1985 topps hockey so had to get this.

Pretty nice action shot, probably in warm ups.

A couple old and a couple new.

Clark Gillies OPC RC 75-76 and an OPC Bobby Orr 76-77. Both cards were rather tough to find centered so I'm glad I was able to get both of these.

As my first post on this board I thought I would show my favorite card that I added to my PC a couple of weeks ago:

It's not my highest dollar card, nor is it in great condition, but to me this is one of those cards you take in any grade you can get because they don't grow on trees.

IMO the 1965 Topps Bobby Orr is/should be the hockey equivalent of the 1952 Topps Mantle. Similar eras, iconic card, Mount Rushmore hockey player, and extremely scarce. Love, love, love this card.

Great stuff. Love the 74/75 pack, very nice. My favorite year for all four sports sets from Topps in the '70s. Hope I can run across one of those some day.

Thanks! BBCE had 7-8 of them a few weeks ago and I managed to snag the last one. They went fast. 74-75 was the first hockey set I collected as a kid so it was purely a nostalgia purchase. I remember needing only Phil Esposito to complete it. Being in Bruins country during the peak of the Orr/Espo years that drove me nuts because nobody would trade me one! I never did get it and sold off the partial set (along with all the other cards I collected as a kid) at a yard sale a few years later.

Great nostalgia pick up, and story. I lived in California in '71 until early '73. My first hockey card came out of a card vending machine at a 7-11, a 72/73 Topps, pretty sure it was a Golden Seal. I was eight and already a hockey fan due to the NBC broadcasts. Seemed like the Bruin were always on TV, so they were my first favorite team. We moved to Arkansas in early '73 and I never saw another hockey card until 1984. Pretty sure I was the only kid in my small Arkansas town that had a stick and puck. Have you rebuilt the set? Seems like a must haha.

My dad is from Worcester, and my first game was in the Boston Garden in the mid-70s. Got to admit as a 10 year old kid I was scared to death with so many drunk, screaming people around. I got over it.

I never did. I did OPC but not the Topps. More focused on baseball lately but I do hope to get it done one day.

I only got to one game in the Garden, toward the end if its final year, against the Penguins. I was a guest of the company my wife worked for at the time and we were in a luxury box so it was hardly a true taste of the Garden. My dad refused to take me as a kid because of the crowd you described!

Larry, just picked up my PSA 1 yesterday, ironically my card must have been in the same stack as your card during the grading process being 1 digit ahead of yours! Fun stuff.

Larry owns the SGC, the PSA one was mine

But you're absolutely right. In fact, your copy ran at auction four or five weeks ago and I lost the auction by THREE DOLLARS. Talk about disappointment.

But the next day the same seller listed another one that was graded in the same batch, and I won that auction which is the card I posted above. He actually sold a third one after that as well that had been bent in half with a huge crease down the middle.

Whoever bought your copy relisted it on eBay maybe a week ago on a BIN/OBO and it looks like you got the deal done

It's a great looking PSA 1 for sure! I wish I had bid a few dollars more lol

Adding to my '51-'52 Parkhurst set with these low grade (and hand colored) cards including the last card in the set #105 Jim Conarcher.

And these OPC's came back from Orr as well. One is NHLPA, not OPC.

Guess you made that decision about which '85 box to buy from that other thread

Are you gonna bust it open?

Thanks Irv.
Yes, to me getting the Topps box seems like much more fun to open than an OPC box. The thought of spending so much more money and possibly getting just one very off center Lemieux and one Gretzky in the OPC box didn't make sense. The Topps box gives me certainly 2 and more than likely 3 Lemieuxs and Gretzkys. My chances of pulling higher grades are in the Topps box as well. Having said that, it would be a lot of fun to pull a high grade Gretzky and Lemieux in OPC.

A few new additions from a variety of sellers that all arrived today.

Real happy with the Denis Potvin OPC RC. It was, at least for me, real tough to find centered. Most cards I looked at were completely absent of the white border on the left side so I was real happy when I seen this one.

Also been after this Zdeno Chara RC for a while but they are, or were, fairly tough to come across. This one has its issues but they look way worse in the scan than they do it hand but I guess in this case, the scan doesn't lie.

Also happy to finally land a decently centered Ron Francis OPC RC. Greatly under appreciated, valued player, imo. Hoping he has good luck as the 1st GM of the expansion team the Seattle Kraken.

1951-52 Parkhurst HOF RC Fernie Flaman arrives from the great white north. Now 76% complete putting the set together with 80 diff of the 105 card set. The 80th card in my cardboard box? #80 Fernie Flamen lol!

Picked up a few sweet raw cards for my PC. These are what I remember pulling from packs:
