What is your definition of the starting point for modern?

1980 is my definition. I know some have a different perspective.

I can definitely respect that as the line of demarcation. I would personally consider cards from the 80s to no longer be "modern" these days.

We're in the same neighborhood, though. To some new collectors, a Crosby rookie would be vintage and 90s cards would be ancient.

To me, 1981 feels like the start of modern, probably because in baseball 1980 was the last year of Topps only. So in hockey, Messier vintage, Lemieux modern.

To me, I always draw the line between modern and vintage at 1984, when Topps came back to the hockey market.

We saw this in basketball earlier this year. Cards went up like skyrockets, came down some, then leveled out well above the pre-run pricing.

Some basketball came down like vintage stuff. Jordan inserts are still red hot. and how his 86 fleer sticker is taking off. it's nuts out there.
also, vintage hockey rules.
