The world championships were here in Lowell one year. I figured I'd go since it was maybe 5 minutes from the house. Really nice crowd, very international and all the people around me were really happy to explain the finer points of the sport. Overall a really good time both of the days I went.

Frank-

I don't think the two Steves realize that your comment may have been directed at the video you included.

Default My confession

Truth be told this actually happened to me. I hit some black ice and slid into ....................a police car that had slid to a stop to investigate a third vehicle that had gone over the curb and down an embankment. Fortunately when I made contact with the law I was sliding at .0004 miles/hour. The damage was minimal, and the officer was very understanding, but could not report his own accident. We had to wait for another police car to write the accident report.

It would have been the makings of a comedy skit if the second officer had slid into your car. Not funny for you if there was damage, but if that then required a third officer and then ................you can see where I'm going with it.

I vividly remember in the early years of ABC's Wide World of Sports, they traveled somewhere to a Curling event. Early 60s black 'n white, with Jim McKay doing the announcing. Just as the sadly missed Mr. McKay would intone each week, "bringing you the constant variety in sports". My memory of that part of his opening description might be off a word, but the fact they had a segment on curling certainly fit the word, "variety".

Oh yeah, curling is most assuredly a sport. ---Brian Powell

Brian, the quote from wide world of sports intro that I do remember verbatim was

"..the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat......"(during which a ski jumper falls awkwardly off the end of a ski jump)

I suspect the agony of de-feet is a reference to barefoot curlers.

Frank,

That phrase was immediately preceded by . . .

"Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports . . "

God, I'm thankful that the ski jumper was still falling off the end of the jump after all those years. Thanks for the link, Dale
