Default Beckett Authenticating Bad 1919 Reds Autographs

I noticed earlier this year Beckett authenticated two autographs that werent even close to being authentic, both cuts with tape over them mounted to 3x5s of 1919 Reds Jake Daubert and Sherry Magee. Just be cautions as the Bill Rariden for sell on ebay right now I would also say is not authentic. I have never seen him sign his name "Bill" either "William" or Wm". But this is my opinion, which I would say given the time and effort Ive spent looking at 1919 World series autographs is very very good.

I would add I think it is very probably that they were all secretarials and not out right forgeries.

To help visually prove my point I threw together this image with real Rariden signatures with the one Beckett "authenticated" I think I have one maybe two more examples of his and both were signed "Wm" will try to find them as well

It has been my experience that Beckett as a generalization is more likely to certify a forged autograph than JSA or PSA while PSA is most likely to reject a good one. Again this doesn't happen that often but still too often IMO

Hondo - Thanks for the comp as well, a great piece even with the tape. And there you have more damning proof of Beckett's error as those "B"s in Bill and Bedford are no where near the same
