Default building trust relationships, not only here but also on ebay....

Posted By: Dave

I know how important it is when buying vintage cards, the process is much easier when dealing with someone you know, having dealt with people here on B/S/T and having dealt with members here on ebay, I have a question. No, its not a necessity, and may be plain stupid, but I'm pretty much tired of my ebay handle all together. Assuming i can change the handle (and that the feedback remains) (which i'm not sure about to begin with), wondering if there are consequences to this or not??? anyone done a handle change?

You can change your handle anytime, but doesn't your feedback start over again at zero? Why would you be tired of a handle, it's just a name?

I'm kind of an idiot like that, no real reason, feedback 100% and all, just tired of the name, thought it would be easier doing this on ebay then changing my legal name. But yes, that is a concern, I dont want to do it anyway if it drops feedback, also not sure what it does if others have you listed in favorites.

Are you aware if your "new handle" carries over to others if they list you as a favorite seller?

Im not sure about your ebay handle, but "asphaltman" does not convey a message of distrust. Actually, Im not sure what message it conveys.

But here, everyone starts out being trusted, and they have to go quite a way before that trust is lost. On ebay, the opposite is true. Trust does not come easy on ebay.

My opinion only.

"asphaltman" is the career path, as an estimator and project manager, to the point i'd like my hobby time not to be associated with work lol

as a "Favorite Seller" I would not recommend changing as it may be confusing to your established buyers. Are you thinking of changing to "Bituminusman"?

Well Dave, I guess that I am disappointed there. I was hoping that Asphaltman was going to be introduced as a new comic book Superhero soon. And what powers he could have!

Maybe Ive been sniffing too many of those asphalt fumes.

See Barry - it works! Where is yours?

that's making me think of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer picks up his vanity license plates and they are for 'Assman'. Okay.....slow day......

And with thousands of doctors in NYC, of course Kramer just happens to end up at the proctologist's office whose plates he accidentally got. How likely is that? That business aside, if you can change your handle without losing your feedback that isn't bad: however, if you've built up name recognition you will lose that when you change. I would say that is more important for a seller than for a buyer.

You can change your ebay name once every 30 days (have to wait 30 days to change it again after changing it). It doesn't effect your rating or anything, and you can change it back to your old name after 30 days if you wish.

My ebay name is hoofaway. How goofy is that? But I do very well, as long as I put in the work, and my customers don't seem to mind. I suppose if my name was Eastern Auctions or something fancy like that, I might do better, but I think ebay has a folksy feel, and I don't think anyone would mind buying or selling to asphaltman.

Your feedback is your feedback and stays with you if you change your name. If you open a NEW user name, then you start all over.

Sounds like its time for a "Name the Asphaltman Contest".
I think that a good ebay handle would be "GotyaSuka". If you can be successful with that - it should be clear sailing!

Only if you approve the name. If you do not, you can just dump the asphalt at the front door.
