Default 1864 mobile - havana the baseball route

1864 MOBILE- HAVANA, THE BASEBALL ROUTE. In 1864, after finishing his studies at Spring Hill College, Nemesio Guillo, his brother Ernesto and Enrique Porto returned to Havana. Nemesio brought a ball and a bat in their luggage, which were the first to enter Cuba the next day. The three youngsters began to practice and their friends and acquaintances soon joined them. This was the beginning of baseball in Cuba, today March 3, 2023, in the Vedado area where in 1864 it was practiced for the first time, a delegation de Movile was part of the event to commemorate the Baseball Route, a group of North Americans from that city participated and spoke at the event, including Blake Stein, who was a pitcher and player from that school and later played in the Major Leagues in 1998 in Oakland and from 1999-2002 with KC ROYALS, in one of the photos I am with him.

That is so neat that it can be pinpointed exactly when the country of Cuba was introduced to the sport of baseball. Thanks for sharing!

I am glad that James, Brian, Peter F, Jeff liked my publication, I will tell you something else, the group of young people grew, and in Vedado, on Paseo y Mar street, the first roundabout of Habana B.B.C. and in 1868 the first baseball team in Cuba was formed, the Habana B.B.C. They formed two teams to play against each other. That same year, some sailors who were in the port of Matanzas challenged Habana for a game at Palmar de Junco in Matanzas, and the game considered the first baseball game between Cubanos was held. and North Americans, I show a photo of the roundabout of Habana B.B.C in 1887, and an entrance ticket from that time.

Just for what it's worth, three of my all-time favorite ballplayers are Adolfo Luque, Conrado Marrero, and Sandalio Consuegra. My grandfather lived in Cuba for a few years, near Camaguey, before World War II. He said the baseball was incredibly excellent.
