Default Is this a 1952 Topps Mantle?

If you wanted a 1952 Topps Mantle, would you count this card? Would love everyone’s thoughts.

https://www.beckett.com/news/this-19...cut-card-ever/

I am personally on the fence. All I collect is Mantle cards for the most part and, when I get the chance, I buy miscut cards so long as they include part of a Mantle card. So, I’d buy this card for the sliver of Mantle and the fit in my collection and consider it an addition to my Mantle collection. But would buying this really add an extra 1952 Topps Mantle to my collection?

This is all just thinking out loud. I don’t own the card, I couldn’t afford it even if it were for sale, and I don’t want to detract from what it is for whoever owns it—it’s one of these coolest miscut cards of all time and is fantastic for what it is.

No that is not a 52 Topps Mantle in any way shape or form IMO.

No. I would not be able to say I owned a Mantle if I bought that card.

you would own 90% of a 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson and 10% of a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, which would actually be pretty cool, imo

Sorta where I’m leaning as well, but the fact that I’d feel the need to get it for my player set—and I know other player collectors feel the same, has me conflicted. Any incredibly miscut 52 Topps cards in your collection Al? Keep waiting for you to show your gum collection (I think you have one) in the Topps ephemera thread and will need to photograph mine and add it soon.

I just bought a very similar card on COMC (not in hand yet), I spotted a miscut 1963 Topps Johnny Blanchard with a sizable piece of a Pete Rose rookie card. I figured for $6, why not. The Rose was between Ron Moeller and Johnny Blanchard on the 7th Series sheet.

I’m in the no camp as well, and I’d be saying that whether the miscut was Mantle or Joe Shlabotnik.

So what are the odds that you can find a Mick that is missing 10% of the right side of the card? Now there is a reunion.

And stop being so serious guys, of course it is a Mantle. Just trimmed a bit short on the left side.

Will it carry a premium over a Jackie that was miscut and had 10% of the card on the other side? If that's not a '52 Mantle, why the premium??

I love the collectors on this site who post their series of miscuts and have 4 or 5 in a row. Totally amazing those cards have stayed together.

I remember when I first seen it up for auction thinking that would be a very cool card to own. I also thought there likely isn't another one like it, or as at least in this condition.
Truthfully, I wasn't shocked at the final bid due to its uniqueness.

I don't think there is anyone that is going to refer to this a 52 Topps Joe Black card .

Someone might be willing to pay a lot for even a partial Topps 1952 Joe Shlabotnik

I have never collected miscuts or blank backs, and the only gum I still have is aging in my Topps pack run. Also a couple of Fleer cookies and Leaf marbles. But if anyone wants to chew down on a piece of Topps 1981 Thirst Break gum I can help with that. Be forewarned the gum is no longer green but brown and gooey. However it is very soft and easily chewable

I collect weird stuff. That is the coolest 52 Topps Mantle I have seen. Unless someone has a half Mantle half Robinson 52 Topps, now that would be amazing.

I think that card is just a badly miscut Ed Wright with a partial Mantle.

The Mantle was double printed, one type has Joe Black under him and the other Mantle has Ed Wright under him.

That's true, so it might be a badly cut Joe Black!

Based on the background color you can see, I'd guess Joe Black.
