This thread is for T206 collectors. Your monster number is the number of unique cards you own out of 524 with the following rules:

240 points for Honus Wagner
80 points each for Plank, Doyle NY NATL, and Magie
One point for everyone else.

The highest monster number is therefore 1000. Condition and back variations are not factors in your basic monster number.

If you have duplicates, they are considered 2nd sets. Each set you own has its own Monster number.

For example: If you currently have 555 total cards, including 36 duplicates and one triplicate and don't own any of the Big Four, your monster numbers are 518 for Set 1, 36 for Set 2, and 1 for Set 3.

Post your current monster number here, and I'll try and update the list every couple of days. Scans are more than welcome!

I'm curious - how old is everyone that collects t206? I'm 45. Obviously most (all?) original collectors of these cards would be dead. Presumably given the high profile of the Wagner, and the 70+ cards with HoFs in the set (Specifically Cobb, Young, Mathewson & Johnson), it will always(?) be relevant, but I'm just wondering does it lose relevance at some point (i.e. when we are all dead!)? My introduction to the set occurred sometime in the 80's - at a card show with my grandpa - I was a collector of contemporary cards at the time (no real interest anymore - except I do buy unopened packs from the 80's/90's every once in a while - to open). He saw the Tinker/Evers/Chance - and bought one of each (Tinker bat off, Evers Cubs on Jersey, Chance Yellow all in the 1-2 grade range). -There is a great Tinker/Evers/Chance thread out there by the way - some of you guys have some absolutely gorgeous, awesome cards. I think he paid like $100 for the 3 at the time (overpaid, I think). I've had an interest ever since, and have bought lots on Ebay over the years, but really picked up the pace this year (Somewhere over 200 now - I need to stop and organize and trade off some dupes).

I'm 62 years of age. I first saw T206 cards in the '70s at a card show, but I didn't buy one until I was in my upper 50s. I wish I had bought them when they didn't cost two arms and two legs.

i am 54, and started buying these in earnest last summer (2021). i am proud that my first one ever was herzog boston from TedZ back in 2008 after becoming fascinated by all the minutiae and history of the set. Just took a while before i wanted to dive in.

My number is up to 226. Goal for the year was 260 (I added about 60 in 2022), but then I discovered some T205s, Wide Pens and Fine Pens that I really liked. Plus a couple of other oddball (for me) pre-war Cardinals cards.

Maybe I should focus better, but I lik the diversity! Good year!
