Default My Official Introduction

I joined the forum sometime back when I came across it while looking for information about some older card sets. It was clear to me that there was a lot of information I could learn from this community. I have mostly lurked so far trying to learn what I could. Just recently decided to begin participating more often.

I am a small budget collector. My primary focus is HOFers and the largest portion of my purchases are post war players. I pick up as many lower grade vintage cards as I can affordand sometimes a couple more after that. Pre-war cards of HOFers dont fit into my budget as often as I would like but when they do they tend to have lots of character.

My other collecting focuses are former Huskers and native Nebraskans in the majors. Fot a Shane Komine or Zane Smith auto you dont know how to unload I may be your guy.

I'm confused by the Ty Griffin card in your avatar. He's a much lesser known Georgia Tech guy and barely had a pro career; what's the connection?

Well I'm a Cubs fan and this card was from when I first started tearing packs as a kid. For me a rookie card of my teams #1 pick felt like a big deal and resprestented hope for the future. Well it didnt turn out that way but for me the picture of that card mingles nostalgia and humor. When I look at some of the amazing and quite valuable cards others here are fortunate enough to own my own collection feels similar to a random rookie common from a mass produced modern set. But if you have a card you love you dont care what its worth and to me thats what makes collecting fun.

I like it! Thanks. I always wanted a 1984 Don Mattingly rookie when I started collecting in 1987, since he was a slow-footed first basemen, just like I fancied myself at the time. ;-)
Now my acquaintance Mark Teixeira is filling his role at 1B in the Bronx. Living vicariously through him...
