Default March Pickups

Starting off March with an underrated (and historically significant) Hall of Famer. Glad to add his RC to my collection.

Nice Doby.

I picked this up at my LCS yesterday, so techincally a February pickup, but we've got a new thread so what the hey. 1956T Warren Spahn in NM condition (except for a little tape). The scan would have come out better if I took the card out of the screwdown, but that lucite was part of the excellent deal.

Default 56T Reese

Has anyone else noticed that post-war cards have become pricey? Every time I bid on a Jackie Robinson or Willie Mays card, I'm like the 27th under-bidder. Here's a Reese, one of the few cards I've won on eBay in the last couple of months.

Yes. The big names from the 50's have exploded much like certain prewar did. And perhaps nobody moreso than Jackie Robinson. I'm astounded at the prices you see '55 and '56 Topps Robinson cards going for recently. Not too long ago, you could get a lower grade '56 Topps Jackie for less than $100. That ship has sailed. Aaron, Mays, and Clemente all are not far behind. Aaron's death in addition to having an effect on his own cards seems to have woke many up to the relative undervaluing of Mays stuff, as well. His '52 Topps card was perhaps not criminally undervalued before, but it was close.

Default 1956 Topps

I picked up a 56T Berra and Robinson in 2016. The Robinson is an sgc 86 and I paid $406 including the BP. A Robinson SGC 86 just sold for $3827. The Berra is worth about 20% more than I paid...I want to buy a 52T Mays, but I just can't hit the buy button at today's prices.

Nice Reese! That particular card is crazy hard to find centered but your example is great. Nice work!

You can save a copy on your desktop, or a pic on your phone, then use the attachment function (paperclip thumbnail) to add a picture.

No luck, it wants a url. Other sites it goes to your saved photos, here is more difficult

Early delivery. Per my tracking, this guy wasn’t supposed to show up until Wednesday. But I guess like Robert himself, this card was “rapid”:

Hell, maybe the centering isn't for everyone, but I have always adored this card due to the strange mystique surrounding its rareness (a short-printed card - with a huge number of them found 'checked' - in a set that had a very short shelf-life). Sort of my own personal 'Cardboard Bigfoot,' as I love catching even a glimpse of one...

Default 1952 Topps

Needed this guy for my set. 1952 Topps = 405/407. Likely the coolest card that I have ever owned. Love everything about it...the player, the condition, the color, the set...love it! 😊

NICE Jackie!!! I hope one day I will own that card...

Darren...count me in as a lover of the 63 Fleer Checklist...I've owned a couple over the years and my current card has light pencil markings and soft corners, and I love it. BTW...the reprints have "Printed in CSA" on the back at the bottom right, and the real cards have "Printed in USA". Amazing to see just how many reprints are on ebay at any given time aged to look old. It's one of the better reprints out there (I bought a mint one for whatever reason that sits next to my original)...

John...LOVE the Bob Feller! After my 60's are complete I am going to finish up my 58 Topps and begin the 55 Bowman...I've always loved those TV cards...

Darren, who cares about centering in this case. Beautiful card. I could just never pull the trigger to pick up this checklist, although I knew it was very rare without being checked.

I made a recent YouTube video showing my Lelands Auctions pickups featuring a larger lot of (33) Bell Brand Dodgers w/ (2) Sandy Koufax along with several Non-Sports Cards lots I won from them. Pretty fun hodge-podge video...

Cross-posting from the auto side. I bought this Ryan rookie raw at the end of February. Had it for a day before I mailed it in to the Nolan Ryan Foundation and just got it back. Nice to finally enjoy it:

Hello all - long time listener and first time poster. Thought I would add some of my 2021 pick-ups for fun. I really enjoy seeing all of the pictures and the discussions on the site and hope to contribute in the future.

These are cards I had in college and I had to sell around 1990 to help pay tuition and living expenses and beer. I had a great Nolan Ryan collection in the 1980's. Anyway, I decided to start buying them back and to start my collecting up again - like a lot of people the last year.

I am building out my Ryan's, Schmidt's, and some other stars of the 60's-80's that I had to part with. I also dabble in 1970's and 80's hockey but that is for another forum. Thanks for listening!

Raymond— 3 of the 8 cards in the Topps 1973 Reprint “set” (1953) incorrectly identify the named player. How could they get it so wrong ? And what was the origin and purpose of such an 8 card screwed up set ? Promotional gift at a Topps event ? Potential test set ( no known test wrappers or boxes) ? Anyone have any insight ?

Default March Pickups

I have a few lower grade Post commons in my collection that came from somewhere, but this purchase is my first real foray into food & beverage. Very happy with this card, and to me it looks a lot better than a 5:

Congratulations on the Ryan RC! I dreamed of owning one as a kid, but it seemed just that at the time, nothing but a dream. One of the first vintage cards I bought when I got back into the hobby.

Matthew, that Doby is one of the nicest cards on this whole thread. Blazer is an understatement. Congrats, pal.

I went on a Larry Doby mission earlier in the month. Picked up 3 nice 7's and an ungraded Bowman that I really like. Looks good in person and I will send it off for grading....eventually.

Bought an early 40th Birthday gift. The best my budget could afford but I think it looks pretty good for a PSA 1.
