Default help ID'ing Ruth card

Posted By: leon

This was posted on the memorabilia side so I figure I will give it a shot here. It's on a dull card stock. The dimensions are 2 1/4 x 3 1/2. I think it's some kind of tribute card from the 70's-80's but not sure...ideas?

looks like a 1979 TCMA "1927 Yankees" card.

It should have a 1979 copyright right on the back of the card

Thanks for posting the display. It's very nicely done. Your enlarged card back says 1987....but the others thought it might be earlier? I know TCMA made sets from many years.....I will just let the original poster know it's from the 1980's. I knew this wouldn't be difficult given the breadth of knowledge on Net54.......best regards

I'll bet TCMA re-used that template many time, over several years. The important thing is, it's a contemporary card. (Well, not to my kids who think 1987 came shortly after the discovery of fire.)

Thanks very much for everyone's help. I couldn't have done it without you Leon. I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to help me. My Dad is in his 80's now. He couldn't remember where he got the card. I'll let him down easy that he didn't strike it rich on this one. Thanks again all.

If anyone else happens to have this identical card, I'd love to hear from you. It says "Babe Ruth, Rightfielder," not "Babe Ruth of" and has a blank back, no date or anything. I was unable to find this exact card anywhere so far.

Here's a link to one on Ebay.

The card is dated on the reverse but some people will erase it to make it look old and possibly valuable.

Leon,

I have the entire set with this card. It was a celebration of the 1927 Yankees. I just don't know if I have it on hand or stored away.

Thanks for the link to the exact card on Ebay. I hadn't searched there lately. I'll let my father know about it all. Happy Holidays.
