Default Are the backs blank?

If the backs are blank, they would be considered simply "autographed" promotional photos of the 1934 Tour of Japan.

If the items have post card backs then they would be considered "autographed" Real Picture Post Cards, and you might be able to determine who created them.

Look to be JBR 34 1934 All Maruzen US Baseball Team Bromides according to the Engel Guide. Let me try to pull the page and post it here

Patched this together, the entry was on two pages. Looks possible anyway.

Thanks guys. Backs are blank. I wish I had also bought the Ruth instead of letting myself get outbid seeing these prices.

The “R5” designation in Engel means there are less than 5 known copies of each card in existence.

In years of searching as a collector in Japan, I’ve never actually seen one of those cards come up for sale here. I am pretty sure the few out there are all in the hands of American collectors (including yours of course!)

Great cards.

As noted in Gary Engel's guide, the set was issued in two different packs of eight cards. We had pack "A" before that included the Ruth, Gehrig, Mack, Gomez, Whitehill, Berry, Date and Kura. The Hall of Fame in Tokyo has the complete set.

Those cards are super cool and I have no doubt that they would sell well at an auction but take the Engel prices with an extremely large grain of salt. My experience trying to sell Japanese cards is that the prices he quotes have no relationship to reality. Absent an actual auction result they are just SWAG.

The prices in his guide are for Nr Mt to Mint condition. We actually sold this eight card set privately in 2016 for $23,300. One problem with pricing is that there are not enough transactions due to the limited amount of cards and this being a niche market. The JBR 67 Ruth/Gehrig card is listed for $500. In our last auction an SGC 6 sold for $2572 and we have an SGC 4 in the current auction already at $440.
