Default Another Big Step Foreward...

...Toward finishing my low-grade, raw 1953 Bowman color set, and the numbers stand thus: 130/160. I have recieved three mailings totaling 11 cards Friday and Saturday, such notables as Larry Doby, Orestes "Minnie" Minoso, and Walt Dropo. As has been the case with this set all along, the quality is all over the place; the usual blobs, print lines, off centering, wax/gum stains, you name it. But it is a low-grade, raw set of cards, and I am quite pleased with it to be honest. It most certainly is not a set for the faint of heart or to get all lathered up over, but I do have decent Mantle, Reese, Musial, Hodges, and all the others in there. Pix on request...

Love this set, the photography is far superior to any cards of its era or even the 20 years after. My raw, low grade set is at 159/160, missing only the Mantle which I should have bought before the pandemic price increases. I have the full B/W set. Minoso is probably my favorite card in the set besides the Reese, nice pickups!

Here are the cards I need to finish. I added two I would like to improve (really poor to perhaps fair or good), and removed #158, as I have Howard Fox in decent shape.

This is awesome! Keep going, and finish! I enjoy hearing stories like this. Very happy for you. I have come to the conclusion that I can live with lesser condition cards so that I can finish the set. The totality of the completed set just means a lot. At the end of the day, you'll have a complete set of '53 Bowman Color which is more than many collectors (myself included) can say.

I had that exact same reaction a few weeks ago (and posted about it here) after seeing photos of particularly vivid Ashburn and Roberts cards. Just beautiful.
