Ball Players who have committed suicide w/Photo challenge!
Posted By: Jim Clarke
Here is the list I copied and paste from Fred's research. Since we always look for reason to show photos.. Why not try to complete this list... I'll start with Marty Bergen and Patsy Tebeau.. I never would believe that many people would take their lives like that...Surprised not more from the 30's... |

This might be the dumbest idea for a thread I have ever seen. Why stop at suicide? How about murderers, rapists, or anti-semites? Or better yet, lets see if we can find some autopsy photos!!! |

I don't think it's a dumb thread. Poor taste and tacky, probably; disrespectful, possibly, but not dumb. |

No disrespect was intended. I know I like to show cards whenever I have a chance to. Why buy these things if noone will look at them? I show my cards to my buddy when he comes from Florida, on my website, and on this forum. I think I look for any reason to show my cards now that I think about it. JC |

I came off a little too strong (maybe a lot too strong!) in my first post. I realize no one meant any harm - I apologize if I sounded like I was trying to be the "moral compass" of the board. Its a morbid topic, but it is a bit interesting, esp. in light of the T.O. incident... |

I find nothing wrong with this topic at all. (not intended toward Chris) but wanting to be sensative or politically correct is admirable, but the most strong desire to be so can only offset human interest and curiosity into this subject to a very limited degree. Every person in the word is at least slightly interested in the topic of death. That is why we ALL slow down to look at traffic accidents, we ALL would rather own a baseball card of Willard Herschberger than Shanty Hogan, We ALL would rather read a rivoting artcile on Marty Bergan than a boring biography of common 19th century backup etc. Shows like CSI are popular for a reason, we have a natural human curiosity and slightly morbid fascination toward death because the process of taking your own life and what is beyond it are unknown and the unknown always intrigues us. I think it also has the opposite effect of "being disrespectful". I find myself very sympathetic for the problems these men had and am so thankful I live in a society where mental and physical illnesses can be treated so much easier. |

This topic is perverse. You are certainly free to talk about it, and I am certainly not offended but it's perverse. |

Climbing over a bar to attack a bartender armed with a 12 gauge is kind of suicidal.
