Default Vintage College Football Fight Song Music Boxes

I'm really interested in the history of these plastic wind up college football music boxes. Here is my Wisconsin example.

I have several with nice shield crest decals. I have a couple with school crest stickers. I'm guessing that the boxes were made with school fight song and colored laces and the schools affixed the crest. I have an MSC (Michigan State College) ball that suggests they are from pre 1955, but there is no manufacturer stamp or id on the ball. Does anyone know any history behind this neat collectible?

I saw the Michigan State one several years ago in an antique shop and when I went back a few weeks later it was gone. If a Purdue version ever pops up I'd love to have it. Besides Purdue, I collect a lot of general Big Ten items and would gladly add any of the schools to my college collection.

I don't have the details that you're looking for, but it's a cool item!
